Mission

Aia is the voice of the aerospace, defense, and homeland security industry, representing the nation's leading manufacturers and suppliers of civil, military, and business aircraft, helicopters, uass, space systems, aircraft engines, missiles, materiel, and related components, equipment, services, and information technology. Serving its members and the nation, aia establishes industry goals and strategies, achieving consensus among its members and national and global stakeholders and implementing solutions to industry-wide issues related to national and homeland security, civil aviation, and space.

Major Activities

Activity 2
The civil aviation division addresses common, non-competitive domestic and international civil aviation issues. The division is guided by the civil aviation council, which interacts with the association's committees on aircraft noise and emissions, aviation security, aviation regulations and safety, air traffic management, research and development and commercial customer support. It also serves as a link to other aviation associations and to safety agencies around the world. The civil aviation division's activities are aligned with three primary objectives: promote global competitive trade, support transformational aviation initiatives and revitalize the environment for research and innovation in the united states. Activities on global competitive trade involve the advocacy for a fair and unbiased international regulatory framework and fair market access internationally. Activities on transformational initiatives include promoting the development and implementation of the next generation air transportation system (nextgen), innovative safety initiatives such as the commercial aviation safety team (cast) and the international helicopter safety team (hst), highly efficient regulatory approaches to product certification, alternative aviation fuels initiatives, and risk-based decision making for aviation security. Activities on the research front include the development and implementation of a national aeronautical policy, promoting enhanced federal research funding for the national aeronautics and space administration and the federal aviation administration, and pursuing tax policies that encourage private research and development expenditures.
Activity 3
The space division provides congress, federal agencies, and other organizations with guidance on domestic and international space issues. It also facilitates dialogue between the space industry and government decision makers to strategic address critical issues such as the health and competitiveness of the u.s. Space industry, state of space systems acquisitions, and the integral role space-based assets bear on the nation's infrastructure and national security.
