Form 990, Part III, Line 3

In 2023, we updated our program design to a modular course offering with different learning pathways. Participants will have the agency to journey through the fully remote training program, which consists of four separate learning modules: Digital Literacy, Introduction to Programming, Frontend UI Development, Backend Development. Once participants have acquired core technical skills in the first two modules, they will be eligible for advanced modules in different tracks (e.g., UI Development/Frontend Engineering and Backend Engineer). Advanced learning modules incorporate project-based learning which allows participants to apply their skills in active client products where they can grapple with coding challenges, discover and test solutions, and interact with structured teams. These projects help participants learn about version control, the software lifecycle, code collaboration, and how to work with product teams. Participants contribute code, attend technical meetings such as standups, sprint reviews, and retrospective meetings, and write technical documentation. By working on real projects in the structure of real tech companies, participants are better prepared for future roles as well as job interviews.

Financial Statement Notes

Part X : FIN48 Footnote

The Organization is a not-for-profit organization that is exempt from federal income tax on income under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and from state franchise tax under California Revenue and Taxation Code Section 23701 (d). However, income from activities not directly related to its tax-exempt purpose is subject to taxation as unrelated business income. There was no tax on unrelated business income for year ended December 31, 2023.FASB ASC 740-10 requires an organization to determine whether it is more likely than not that a tax position will be sustained upon examination on the technical merits of the position, assuming the taxing authority has full knowledge of all information. If the tax position does not meet the more likely than not recognition threshold, the benefit of that position is not recognized in the financial statements. The Organization has no assets or liabilities related to uncertain tax positions. The Organization is subject to routine audits by taxing jurisdictions; however, there are currently no audits for any tax periods in progress.

IRS990/Desc0In 2023, AnnieCannons launched its new Coding Training Program. The goal of the Coding Training Program is to train, prepare, and connect survivors of human trafficking to sustainable careers in technology. This new program design prioritizes trauma-informed classes, individualized student support and career goal setting, and student agency. This program relies on a model of partnership and referrals with other survivor-led and survivor-centered organizations to ensure that students have the necessary support to grow in the classes and then thrive in new careers. 30 new students joined the new AnnieCannons model, and 11 advanced students continued their journey with AnnieCannons from previous cohorts.a. Technical TrainingStudents journeyed through the fully remote training program, which consists of four separate learning modules. In Tech Career Foundations, students gained increased skills, understanding and confidence in securing employment in tech industry jobs. This module solidified critical 21st century digital workplace skills and bridged the gap in understanding the tech industry, the software lifecycle, and the foundations for programming. In Introduction to Programming, students built a foundation of knowledge to be successful in software development and programming. Students have increased skills, understanding and confidence in algorithmic thinking, web principles, and problem solving. In Advanced Learning Modules, students learned advanced topics in frontend and backend development. These modules incorporate project-based learning which allows students to apply skills in active client products where they can grapple with coding challenges, discover and test solutions, and interact with structured teams. Students contributed code, attended technical meetings such as standups, sprint reviews, and retrospective meetings, and wrote technical documentation. By working on real projects in the structure of real tech companies, students are better prepared for future roles as well as job interviews. b. Tech Career Readiness In 2023, Students had access to one-on-one coaching from guest speakers, mentors, a Student Success Coordinator, and a Career Development Manager. This created the space needed to focus on building personal skills and confidence for the workplace by enhancing communication, time and project management, and self-directed learning. Attention was also given to the creation of a professional portfolio, resume development, and technical interviewing preparation. Additionally, students prepared themselves for a successful career through interactions and workshops with role models, tech industry professionals, and wellness experts.c. Career ConnectionProgram staff built partnerships with technology companies to create a reporting mechanism for hiring managers to update status on needed skills for new hires, updated curriculum materials, created new assessment protocols, and built new learning pathways that increase student hireability.

IRS990ScheduleD/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt0The Organization is a not-for-profit organization that is exempt from federal income tax on income under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and from state franchise tax under California Revenue and Taxation Code Section 23701 (d).

IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt0In 2023, we updated our program design to a modular course offering with different learning pathways.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt1Primarily, the CEO is responsible for careful review of the 990. The Governance Committee and Executive Committee of the Board of Directors will also conduct a review.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt2The Organization reviews the conflict of interest policy with the board members. Review of all transactions for any related party activity during the audit. All board members are required to report any and all conflicts of interest.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt3Data was collected from the Economic Research Institute to create the AnnieCannons Salary Bands. Any changes or increases to the CEOs salary must be reviewed and approved by the Governance Committee on the Board of Directors.
