To train survivors of human trafficking in tech skills

Program Services

DescriptionGrantsExpenses
Training Program: In 2016, we graduated our first training cohort and had our top student transition to fulltime work as an independent contractor for AnnieCannons. In August 2016, we launched our second class with 10 students in partnership with the Alameda County Family Justice Center. All of the students passed the Digital Literacy and Software Lifecycle Modules and continued to Web Development. We created several new curriculum modules: Web APIs, Hosting, JavaScript Frameworks, Product Management, and Visual Design. In preparing for our second class, we have modularized our materials and made them available for free online for the benefit of our students and other organizations who want to use them to try teaching less-privileged populations. Our students receive instruction in digital literacy, personal financial, software development, and front-end web development. For those interested, we also offer instruction in backend development, product management, and visual design. We developed Instructor and TA training guidelines for future graduates who wish to become teachers in the AnnieCannons community. We also developed the infrastructure for our first Spanish-speaking class by beginning the translation process (linguistic and cultural) of our curriculum materials.$0$75,348
Client Project Program: In 2016, we secured 14 client website and mobile application contracts. Four client projects were completed by our graduate developer. You can see completed client projects at www.anniecannons.com/portfolio. The remaining projects await the provision of content from clients. We extended our relationship with Palantir Technologies to secure data entry/management work for five additional students who complete the first phase of our training. This work is available to students who have completed Phase I, can be done remotely, and is paying no less than $20 per hour. We have added several new potential partners to the first stage of our client pipeline, including Genentech and the nonprofit, How Women Lead.$0$21,528
Student Project Program: We launched an interactive web application that was built entirely by our students, designed to collect more accurate statistics about the prevalence of sexual assault globally, available at https://survivors.io. We also began working on a second class project in Alameda County to create a technology solutions for helping survivors of abuse file for restraining orders.$0$10,764
