“The academy for educational studies hosted two academic conferences in 2024 - the critical questions in education conference, in new orleans, in early march; and the critical questions in education symposium, in late october, in pittsburgh. The conference focused on a single topic: teaching: how we see it, and what we're doing about it. The symposium focused on two topics: giving voice and being heard in the field of education, and how to handle the questions students most want answered--"why do we need to learn this?" about two hundred thirty people attended the conference; about 115 people attended the symposium. The academy continued its relationship with myers education press. Two books were published in 2024--"what do we mean by that?: interrogating familiar expressions in education", and "who's gonna water my tomatoes?: school gardens, kitchens, and the search for educational authenticity". We distributed books at both gatherings, and all books are on sale on the myers education press website. The academy continues to publish scholarly articles in its blind peer-reviewed open- access online journal, critical questions in education and in its second journal, thresholds in education.”
