“The academy provides both a means and a place where people can ask questions about important educational issues, then gather together to talk, study, and respond to those issues.”
“The academy for educational studies hosted two academic conferences in 2022 - the critical questions in education conference, in charleston, south carolina, in february; and the critical questions in education symposium, in october, in denver, colorado. The conference focused on three topics: the state of the teaching profession; what inspires people to teach; and the united themes of books, reading and writing. The symposium focused on two topics: changing the narrative about teaching and learning; and the censorship of books, ideas, and curriculum topics in education. Over two hundred people attended the conference; about 150 people attended the symposium. The academy continued its relationship with myers education press. There have been no new publications, but two works are underway--the first, a book about using "classic texts" in teacher education programs, and the second, a book that challenges over a dozen generally accepted "common ideas" in education. We distributed books at both gatherings-- charleston and denver--to those in attendance. The academy continues to publish scholarly articles in its blind peer-reviewed open-access online journal, critical questions in education.”
