“The mission of education opens doors (eod) is to activate all students to determine and pursue an informed future. We believe all students deserve the opportunity to pursue their limitless potential. They have the right to understand the value of an education and how to access and attain all options available to them after high school. Yet, systems of inequity within education are leaving thousands of underserved youth across the country behind, restricting the path to social mobility and economic security. Without a roadmap to success, countless students aspirations are never fully realized, as they lack the information and support necessary to achieve their dreams. Through our program, eod equips students with the knowledge and skills they need to realize their college and career potential. Eod addresses the non-academic barriers that students face on their path to postsecondary success through each facet of our program package. We provide a research-driven student manual, aligned curriculum, customized in-classroom teacher support, and data analysis. We collaborate with schools and organizations, collectively impacting students. Ultimately, the goal of the roadmap to success program is to improve graduation rates and increase postsecondary enrollment and completion for all students, setting them on the path to college and career success. Serving schools and partners across texas, in new orleans, and new york, we prioritize middle school students from communities of color, low income communities, and future first-generation college students.”
“In 2017, a national survey done by harris interactive found that while 92 percent of seventhand eighth-graders said they were likely to attend college, 68 percent said they had little or no information about which classes to take to prepare for it. According to harvard ed. Magazine, 1.7 million students attend a school with a police officer but no counselor. All too often, schools which either lack of a counselor or have high counselor-student ratios are in low-income communities. In these communities, where many students are often the first in their family to pursue postsecondary education, the lack of time to share critical information and resources about the college process during the middle school years is an information gap that may be too significant to overcome as they move into high school. The eod program fills a unique need by targeting middle and early high school students and embedding the eod program curriculum into existing classes. According to the forgotten middle, "improving the college and career readiness skills that students possess by 8th grade have the most dramatic impact on high school graduates' ultimate level of college and career readiness. This impact is much larger than that associated with any single high school-level enhancement." eod provides students with knowled about college and career options as well as the necessary steps to set them on a path to access those options. Program description: the goal of the eod program is to ensure students gain the knowledge required to pursue the high school of their choice and ultimately enroll in postsecondary education. To achieve this goal, the eod program utilizes a train-the-trainer model to equip teachers with the too they need to effectively increase expectations, motivation, and college and career knowledge in their classrooms. Eod offers two year-long eod program packages, foundations i and foundations ii, implemented over two consecutive years. The eod program provides students with 900 additional minutes of active college planning and career preparation discussion in just one year. Each package includes the following student and teacher components: interactive eod program student guidebook: the over 300-page guidebook, which is refreshed annually, addresses topics such as the impact of gpa, course selection, high school choice, and sat/act scores on college selection and postsecondary success. Activities are included for topics such as interviewing, evaluating colleges, choosing a major, and applying for financial aid - all of which are not traditionally taught in classes during the school day. Students keep their guide to be used as a resource as they navigate to and through high school and prepare for postsecondary success. Teacher curriculum and supports: teachers implementing the program attend a training where they learn about eod program goals and receive a comprehensive curriculum. This curriculum provides instructional methods, student materials, and assessments to gauge change in student aspirations and college knowledge. As they deliver the program throughout the year, teachers can access additional program resources and engage in discussion with other teachers implementing the program through an online portal. A dedicated eod impact manager conducts regular observations on-site during the scheduled program implementation time and is a resource and support for teachers. For the 2019-2020 school year, eod aims to serve 15,000 students in at least 60 schools and program partners. This includes 25 of the 41, 61 percent, of dallas isd's middle schools. To measure the program's impact for this increased number of students, eod implements two levels of evaluation. At the start and conclusion of the school-based program, eod works with teachers to implement pre-post assessments and surveys. The 40 question assessment measures student knowledge on topics relating to navigating high school, professionalism, exploring career paths, and financial”

| IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActyOtherGrp/Desc | 0 | IN 2017, A NATIONAL SURVEY DONE BY HARRIS INTERACTIVE FOUND THAT WHILE 92 PERCENT OF SEVENTHAND EIGHTH-GRADERS SAID THEY WERE LIKELY TO ATTEND COLLEGE, 68 PERCENT SAID THEY HAD LITTLE OR NO INFORMATION ABOUT WHICH CLASSES TO TAKE TO PREPARE FOR IT. | IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt | 0 | THE MISSION OF EDUCATION OPENS DOORS (EOD) IS TO ACTIVATE ALL STUDENTS TO DETERMINE AND PURSUE AN INFORMED FUTURE. SERVING SCHOOLS AND PARTNERS ACROSS TEXAS, IN NEW ORLEANS, AND NEW YORK, WE PRIORITIZE MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS FROM COMMUNITIES OF COLOR, LOW INCOME COMMUNITIES, AND FUTURE FIRST-GENERATION COLLEGE STUDENTS. |
