Governance Explanations

Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 2

Don gallo and tom hofbauer have a business relationship.

Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 8B

The organization does not have any committees with authority to act on behalf of the governing body.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11B

The prepared form 990 is reviewed by the governing body before the return is filed with the irs.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12C

The organization's conflict of interest policy covers all directors and employees. Any director or employee is considered an interested person. In connection with any actual or possible conflict of interest, the interested person must disclose all material facts to the governing body. The interested person cannot be present at the meeting while the determination of a conflict of interest is discussed and voted upon. If a conflict that may affect the daily or long-term operations of the organization is identified, either the conflict is removed or the person is asked to no longer serve in such capacity. To ensure the organization operates in a manner consistent with charitable purposes and does not engage in activities that could jeopardize its tax-exempt status, each director and employee must annually sign a statement that affirms that such person has received a copy of the conflict of interest policy, has read and understands the policy, and has agreed to comply with the policy.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15A

The performance of the executive director is reviewed by the governing body on an annual basis. Written performance evaluations are given to all employees. The governing body reviewed compensation comparability data when hiring the current executive director.

Form 990, Part VI, Section C, Line 19

The organization made its governing documents, conflict of interest policy, and financial statements available to the public upon request.

IRS990/Desc0LAND ACQUISITION - TALL PINES CONSERVANCY APPLIED FOR AND WAS ACCEPTED TO THE HIGHLY COMPETITIVE REGIONAL CONSERVATION PROTECTION PROGRAM (RCPP) TO PURCHASE DEVELOPMENT RIGHTS ON WORKING LANDS THROUGH THE AGRICULTURE LAND EASEMENT (ALE) PROGRAM. THE PURCHASE OF DEVELOPMENT RIGHTS (PDR) ON A 150-ACRE FARM WITHIN THE WATERSHED WAS FUNDED IN PART THROUGH THIS PROGRAM AND THE CLOSING ON MAYER FARM OCCURRED IN 2020. THE ORGANIZATION WAS VERY GRATEFUL TO RECEIVE A GENEROUS DONATION OF 13 ACRES OF LAND LOCATED ADJACENT TO LAPHAM PEAK BY CHLOE AND ROSS WANDSCHNEIDER. WE WERE ALSO GIFTED AN EASEMENT OF 1.2 ACRES LOCATED JUST SOUTH OF THE BEAVER LAKE BOAT LAUNCH.TPC IS AN ACTIVE MAJOR PARTNER IN THE OCONOMOWOC WATERSHED PROTECTION PROGRAM (OWPP). THIS PROGRAM CONTINUES TO ASSIST LANDOWNERS WITHIN THE WATERSHED IN IMPLEMENTING SUSTAINABLE LAND MANAGEMENT PRACTICES TO REDUCE PHOSPHORUS LEVELS IN OUR RIVERS, LAKES AND STREAMS. OUT OF THE 70+ CRITICAL SOURCE AREAS THAT HAVE BEEN IDENTIFIED, 33 OF THEM HAVE BEEN ADDRESSED THROUGH INSTALLATION OF BUFFERS, AERIAL SEEDING OF COVER CROPS, AND GRASS WATERWAYS. AS A PRIORITY AREA WITHIN THIS PROJECT, WE CONTINUE TO EXECUTE THE MASON CREEK WATERSHED MANAGEMENT PLAN TOGETHER WITH THE NORTH LAKE MANAGEMENT DISTRICT, SEWRPC, THE WISCONSIN DNR, OWPP, THE TOWN OF MERTON AND CARROLL UNIVERSITY. IN 2019, WE COMPLETED THE PURCHASE OF 26 ACRES OF LAND ALONG THE CREEK AND RECEIVED A GRANT TO FUND AN ENGINEERING PLAN THAT WILL ALLOW US TO RE-MEADER THE STREAM COURSE. THE GOAL OF THIS PROJECT IS TO POSITIVELY AFFECT THE SEDIMENTATION LEVELS IN THE CREEK. THE OWPP PROJECT, NOW NEARING ITS 6TH YEAR, HAS PROVEN ITS CRITICAL ROLE IN REDUCING PHOSPHOROUS REDUCTION LEVELS IN THE ENTIRE WATERSHED, INCLUDING OUR LAKES. TALL PINES ALSO CONTINUES ITS COLLABORATION WITH FARMERS FOR LAKE COUNTRY, A PRODUCER-LED MENTORING GROUP, TO EDUCATE AND IMPLEMENT BEST PRACTICES ON LANDS WITHIN THE OCONOMOWOC RIVER WATERSHED, INCLUDING THE AERIAL SEEDING OF COVER CROPS. THE FIRST FARMER APPRECIATION DAY COOKOUT WAS ATTENDED BY MORE THAN 50 LANDOWNERS. TPC WORKED WITH THE CLEAN WATER ASSOCIATION TO CONDUCT ITS POPULAR QUARTERLY MEETINGS AND THE 4TH ANNUAL HEALTHY LAKES CONFERENCE IN JUNE. WE ALSO ASSISTED THE GROUP IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF ITS STRATEGIC PLAN AND SUBSEQUENT NAME CHANGE TO LAKE COUNTRY CLEAN WATERS.WE CONTINUE OUR WORK WITH A NUMBER OF FARMLAND OWNERS IN THE ASHIPPUN RIVER WATERSHED THAT CONTIGUOUSLY COULD RESULT IN 1000 ACRES PROTECTED.TPC PARTNERS WITH MANY OUTSTANDING NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS AND GOVERNMENT ENTITIES IN 2019 TO MEET MUTUAL LAND CONSERVATION GOALS. THESE GROUPS INCLUDE THE MI-KETTLE PARTNERS, OZAUKEE-WASHINGTON LAND TRUST, THE ROCK RIVER COALITION, GREENER OCONOMOWOC, THE NATURE CONSERVANCY, WAUKESHA GREEN TEAM, WAUKESHA COUNTY LAND CONSERVANCY, GATHERING WATERS AND CARROLL UNIVERSITY.
