Mission and Program Overview

Mission

Our mission is to preserve our rural heritage by protecting remaining farmland, water resources and natural areas and open spaces adjacent to and impacting northwestern waukesha county.

Major Activities

Activity 2
Land managementtpc completed a new strategic plan for 2011-2014 and finalized our conservation plan. We continued to work on adopting policies to meet best practices standards of the land trust alliance and in preparation for accreditation. Our outreach strategies included working with landowners in the towns of oconomowoc, ashippun, merton, delafield and ashippun. We continued our monitoring program with newly trained volunteers, and conducted two invasive species removal work days at camp/quad in addition to hosting north lake school for a mussel identification day. Tpc together with the town of ashippun and oconomowoc, and datcp conducted a workshop on the purchase of agricultural conservation easements. Over 50 landowners were in attendance.
Activity 3
Conservation educationtpc organized the second family day at camp/quad with 200 people in attendance to highlight benefits of land conservation on our largest easement property. The second tpc ride to the barns a cycling event that highlighted local farms and local food was very well received and attracted over 100 cyclists. Fall harvest 2010 was expanded as well to include local farmers featuring local foodand was located in the town of oconomowoc featuring the secretary of agriculture as speaker and our second annual award program. Tpc partnered with the tyme out center and the merton town hall library and sunseed to start a local farmers market called the lake country farmers market. It was a big success attracting over 200 attendees at each market and featuring cooking demonstrations. Tpc had a table at the market offering general information to the community on land preservationour slogan was no land, no farms, no food. Articles on tpcs work in farmland preservation and the aea were featured in the journal sentinel, exclusively yours and 30 west magazines. Tpc met and surpassed our 2010 development plan goal, and our current membership has grown to over 300.
