Governance Explanations

Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 8B

The organization does not have any committees with authority to act on behalf of the governing body.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11B

The prepared form 990 is reviewed by the governing body before the return is filed with the irs.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12C

The organization's conflict of interest policy covers all directors and employees. Any director or employee is considered an interested person. In connection with any actual or possible conflict of interest, the interested person must disclose all material facts to the governing body. The interested person cannot be present at the meeting while the determination of a conflict of interest is discussed and voted upon. If a conflict that may affect the daily or long-term operations of the organization is identified, either the conflict is removed or the person is asked to no longer serve in such capacity. To ensure the organization operates in a manner consistent with charitable purposes and does not engage in activities that could jeopardize its tax-exempt status, each director and employee must annually sign a statement that affirms that such person has received a copy of the conflict of interest policy, has read and understands the policy, and has agreed to comply with the policy.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15A

The performance of the executive director is reviewed by the governing body on an annual basis. Written performance evaluations are given to all employees. The governing body reviewed compensation comparability data when hiring the current executive director.

Form 990, Part VI, Section C, Line 19

The organization makes its governing documents, conflict of interest policy, and financial statements available to the public upon request.

IRS990/Desc0TALL PINES CONSERVANCY APPLIED TO THE FEDERAL FARM & RANCHLAND PROTECTION PROGRAM FOR A 300 ACRE FARM IN THE TOWN OF ASHIPPUN, DODGE COUNTY. THE APPLICATION WAS ACCEPTED BY THE PROGRAM FOR PURCHASE OF DEVELOPMENT RIGHTS. THE PURCHASE OF DEVELOPMENT RIGHTS ON THE ASHIPPUN FARM CLOSED IN MARCH 2016. TALL PINES ALSO RECEIVED A DONATION OF A CONSERVATION EASEMENT ON A 16-ACRE FARM PROPERTY LOCATED ADJACENT TO PINE LAKE. WE CONTINUE TO WORK ON THE MASON CREEK WATERSHED MANAGEMENT PLAN TOGETHER WITH THE NORTH LAKE MANAGEMENT DISTRICT, SEWRPC, WDNR, THE CLEAN WATER ASSOCIATION, THE TOWN OF MERTON AND CARROLL UNIVERSITY. IN 2014/15, WE EMBARKED ON AN AMBITIOUS PROJECT WITH THE CITY OF OCONOMOWOC CALLED OCONOMOWOC WATERSHED PROTECTION PROGRAM. THIS PROGRAM ASSISTS LANDOWNERS WITHIN THE WATERSHED IN IMPLEMENTING SUSTAINABLE LAND MANAGEMENT PRACTICES IN ORDER TO REDUCE PHOSPHORUS LEVELS IN OUR RIVERS, LAKES AND STREAMS. THROUGH A PRODUCER LED GRANT FROM DATCP, FARMERS FOR LAKE COUNTRY WAS FORMED TO WORK IN THE WATERSHED, AND THE GROUP CONDUCTED ITS FIRST FIELD TECHNOLOGY DAYS HIGHLIGHTING BEST PRACTICES. IN ADDITION, TPC WORKED WITH THE CLEAN WATER ASSOCIATION THROUGH A GRANT FROM WCCF TO CONDUCT THE FIRST ANNUAL HEALTHY LAKES CONFERENCE. WE CONTINUE TO WORK DILIGENTLY WITH BOTH THE TOWN OF OCONOMOWOC AND ASHIPPUN ON THE AGRICULTURAL ENTERPRISE AREA (AEA); ENCOURAGING LANDOWNERS TO SIGN FARMLAND PRESERVATION AGREEMENTS; FURTHERING THE CREATION OF A PURCHASE OF DEVELOPMENT RIGHTS PROGRAM; AND ENCOURAGING THE TOWN OF ASHIPPUN TO ADOPT FARMLAND PRESERVATION ZONING. WE CONDUCTED ANOTHER AG RESOURCE DAY AT THE TOWN OF ASHIPPUN WITH OVER 50 LANDOWNERS IN ATTENDANCE. TPC PARTNERED WITH MANY OUTSTANDING NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS AND GOVERNMENTAL PARTNERS IN 2016 TO WORK TOGETHER TO MEET MUTUAL GOALS IN LAND PRESERVATION ACTIVITIES, INCLUDING THE MID-KETTLE PARTNERS, OZAUKEE WASHINGTON LAND TRUST, THE ROCK RIVER COALITION, GREENER OCONOMOWOC, THE NATURE CONSERVANCY, WAUKESHA COUNTY GREEN TEAM, PRO-HEALTH WESTWOOD, AND CARROLL UNIVERSITY.
