Mission and Program Overview

Mission

Soliyas mission is global but Soliyas current focus is on strengthening relationships and fostering cooperation between youth from Western and predominately Muslim societies. Rising cultural and religious tensions within and between these societies play a major role in preventing people worldwide from working collaboratively to find mutually beneficial solutions to global challenges. Soliya aims to bridge this divide by directly connecting young adults from diverse communities and empowering them to use the latest in new media and communication technologies to share their voices, build respectful relationships and inspire understanding.

Soliya's mission is to empower young adults to engage with difference constructively to foster intercultural cooperation and advance inclusive societies worldwide. Founded in 2003, soliya pioneered the use of virtual exchange-defined as sustained, technology-enabled, people-to-people education programs-as a singular medium of peace- and skill-building for the 21st century. In an increasingly interconnected world, soliya works to strengthen access to and equity of cross-cultural experience so that a greater amount and diversity of youth can become international leaders who navigate diverse spaces and dialogue with social responsibility and respect for difference. In so doing, soliya aims to advance a more compassionate and pluralistic world where diversity is embraced, conflicts are transformed into opportunities for collective learning, and all young people equally participate in thought-sharing and decision-making.

This policy applies to soliya's board members, officers, and executives. When any of these individuals become aware of a conflict with: - a family member as identified in the policy; - other parties in which these individuals or entities share 10% or greater relationship; - or these individuals are an officer, director, trustee, partner, or employee of the other party; he or she has a duty to take the following action: - immediately disclose the existence and circumstances to soliya's board in writing; - refrain from using his or her personal influence to encourage soliya to enter into the transaction; - physically excuse himself or herself from any discussions regarding the transaction except to answer questions, including board discussions and decisions on the subject. Questionnaires are available for inspection by any board member and may be reviewed by the organization's legal counsel.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15

A thorough analysis of salary standards in the non-profit industry and in geographies where soliya operates was conducted, and salary bands for each position were created to avoid gross fluctuations. The salary bands determine a minimum and maximum salary for all positions. The final amount is decided through negotiations with the employee and consultation with the executive team at soliya for key employees, and with the board of directors for executive salaries.
