Mission

Keep indianapolis beautiful, inc. ("kib") receives contributions from foundations, corporations and the general public for beautification and placemaking, community forestry and youth programming. Kib also contracts with the city of indianapolis and other local entities on community improvement and green infrastructure projects.

Keep indianapolis beautiful (kib) works with thousands of neighbors and volunteers to plant trees, create greenspaces, pick up litter, engage students in nature, and restore habitat, creating life-sustaining landscapes that beautify and strengthen communities.

In 2015, kib launched a small team of urban naturalists to serve as seasonal employees for kib. These college students learned about planting and maintaining native plants in green infrastructure, such as garden beds designed to capture and filter stormwater. Since 2015, this program has grown to include habitat restoration along indianapolis waterways. Kib employed 9 college students as urban naturalists in 2019, allowing them to care for the environment, explore job opportunities, and meet professionals in green-collar careers. Thanks to these urban naturalists, kib managed 7.82 acres of invasive specied in 2019 and planted about 4,000 native plants. They also picked up over 13,000 pounds of litter and made 24 professional connections.

As of december 31, 2019, management does not believe kib has taken any tax positions that are not in compliance with the exempt purpose of the organization. TOGETHER, PEOPLE REMOVED MORE THAN 536 TONS OF LITTER FROM INDIANAPOLIS STREETS, ALLEYS, GREENSPACES, AND WATERWAYS. KIB'S GREENSPACE PROGRAM, WHICH IS COMMITTED TO CREATING VIBRANT PLACES AND COMMUNITIES, TRANSFORMED VACANT LOTS AND UNDERUSED SPACES INTO NATURAL, BEAUTIFUL, AND FUNCTIONAL POCKET PARKS. KIB CREATED THREE NEW GREENSPACES IN 2019 AND HELPED PROJECT PARTNERS MAINTAIN 48 GREENSPACES CREATED IN PAST YEARS.
