The Literacy pilot program which began in 2014 is now in the second phase. The launched of the post Literacy programs are an important step in the process. These programs offer the beneficiaries the opportunity to become fully literate in the language of French. At this stage, participants not only learn to read and write, but are also offered an introduction to concepts that deal with managing their finances, budget, cash management, leadership, geography and more. While Haiti is a bilingual country where both French and Creole are recognized as the official languages, the majority of the population is monolingual speaking only Creole. This post-literacy program will introduce participants to basic principles of the French language. The material used in the post-literacy program is more complex and requires more time for implementation.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy3Grp/Desc0In the 4 years of teacher training experience and classroom observation, PRODEV launched its Teacher Training Academy. The training activities included a 3 day seminar for school directors and administrators and a weeklong workshop for 90 teachers focusing on Kindergarden to 9th grade. This workshop served as an opportunity to assess teachers strengths and weaknesses. The result of this assessment was used to plan workshops and coaching/mentoring activities for the academic year. To address the problems highlighted in the assessment for grades K and Third grade, Prodev concentrated training in the areas of Mathematics, the language of French and enhanced training in workshops for teachers in Classroom Management, Teacher Professional Development to Stop Behaviorial Problems.
