Supplemental Narrative

Additional Explanations

Form 990, Page 1, Part I, Line 6

Volunteers provide invaluable help by providing maintenance on the relief equipment. They also aid with driving the equipment to field locations, cleaning the equipment, and with the refurbishment of trailers after a deployment has been completed. In addition, all but two of the board members were volunteers during the time that they served on the board. In addition to maintenance support, these volunteers provided oversight for the organization.

Form 990, Part III

Immediate relief (continued) after winter storm uri affected many areas of texas in feb. 2021, mow deployed generators to assist at-risk families dealing with power outages. Mow also sent a shower trailer to refugio to support relief work and assisted other local relief work. In dec. 2021 a tornado hit marshall county kentucky. Mow deployed an all-season shower trailer to support relief operations immediately after the tornado. By providing relief equipment immediately after these natural disasters, mow enabled nearly 190,000 of relief donations to be used directly for relief work instead of being used to rent commercially available shower trailers, bunk houses, generators and other equipment. Long-term disaster recovery while relief work is needed immediately after a natural disaster, long-term disaster recovery work can continue years after the initial impact of the disaster. As an example, four years after hurricane harvey tore through the texas gulf coast, recovery is still in progress. Two shower trailers and one bunkhouse trailer were deployed by mow to orange, victoria, and san patricio counties; these trailers supported ongoing hurricane harvey recovery programs. Another example of this long-term recovery is the ongoing assistance provided during covid-19. One of mow's shower trailers continues to support relief to the homeless in dallas county, texas. Another shower trailer has been deployed to newton, tx to support hurricane laura recovery projects; this hurricane struck louisiana in august 2020. It is estimated that if the relief organizations in these long-term projects had rented similar equipment, the cost would have approached 500,000. Instead, these donated funds were available to be used for relief work. Other accomplishments in 2021, mow was able to purchase land that is currently being used as a permanent headquarters and staging area for its disaster equipment. Mow is now able to repair and refurbish its equipment on-site; this enables a much more efficient deployment of these assets. The covid-19 pandemic has negatively impacted the number of volunteers available to respond by helping disaster-impacted communities. The sluggish economy has hampered charitable giving in 2021, thus reducing the cash available for relief efforts. The reduced number of volunteers and shortage of available cash have forced many of the organizations we support with our equipment to shorten the duration of their relief operations. Mow has remained ready to respond to natural disasters and maintains a strong inventory of approved disinfectants and enhanced cleaning procedures; these help to ensure that disaster survivors, first responders, and volunteers stay healthy during relief operations.

IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt0VOLUNTEERS PROVIDE INVALUABLE HELP BY PROVIDING MAINTENANCE ON THE RELIEF EQUIPMENT.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt1IMMEDIATE RELIEF (CONTINUED) AFTER WINTER STORM URI AFFECTED MANY AREAS OF TEXAS IN FEB.
