OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 4: Emerald New Deal (END) is an Oakland based initiative to dedicate 100% of the Oaklands Cannabis Tax Revenue to the individual, families and communities most impacted by the Ward on Drugs. The campaign reached more than 3,000 Oakland residents in a community education effort to show the impact of the War on Drugs on families and communities and recruited more than 100 individuals to give testimony in public settings on their personal experiences on how they were affected by this policy that targeted low-income Black and Brown neighborhoods.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc0Spadework is an organizing school preparing individuals in the art and science of community organizing through essential skills training, case study analysis and mentorship as well as supporting on the job field experience in real-life campaigns that impact everyday people. In 2022, Spadework trained 20 staff organizers from 14 organizations in an intensive Summer and Fall cycles that featured in-person trainings, field support, and mentorship matches to support organizers in the field. Spadework organizers worked on campaigns to address issues of affordable housing, police accountability, education justice, and immigrant rights.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy3Grp/Desc0The Sugar Freedom Project (SFP) encourages decision-makers to recognize and commit to the priorities promoted by communities most impacted by sugar-sweetened drinks low-income communities of color whose rates of diabetes and obesity can arguably be described as a health epidemic. In 2022, SFP recruited and trained eight resident-leaders to conduct 550 household surveys in East Oakland to solicit community priorities that deserve support from Oakland's Soda Tax. Community engagement was primarily done in Spanish, English, and Mam. These priorities will help inform new policy priorities on food access issues for years to come.
