Grassroots Racial Equity Task ForceInAdvance concluded its Bring Up the Towns Equity Score! campaign that involved 5 community partners in conducting 500 household surveys, ten focus groups, and seven community gatherings. The campaign culminated in the release of a 40-page report that outlines 53 well-being indicators that participants identified that can signify improvements in their lives. InAdvance sponsored a strategic consultation with staff leadership in the City of Oakland on how to best advance these grassroots-inspired solutions to promote equity.

Emerald New DealComing out of InAdvances Bring Up the Towns Equity Score! campaign, the Emerald New Deal proposes equity solutions to invest in historically-neglected neighborhoods in Oakland. Specifically, focus groups in the campaign identified Oaklands Cannabis Tax Revenue as an important source to invest in communities most impacted by the War on Drugs. This new project has begun to document personal experiences and historical policies that have contributed to the negative impacts of the War on Drugs on Oaklands communities of color. This will pave the way for a broad-based community education campaign in 2020 and beyond.
