IRS990/Desc0II. Grassroots Racial Equity Task Force. InAdvance worked with five community-based organizations in developing Well-Being Indicators from surveys of 500 households in Oaklands low-income communities. We trained staff and volunteers of these organizations in conducting various outreach methods including doorknocking and housemeetings. This effort seeks to complement the racial disparities report from Oaklands Department of Race & Equity released in June 2018 to find community-based solutions to systemic racism embedded in systems that directly impact peoples lives. The project also sponsored 10 focus groups and five citywide leadership meetings.

Sugar Freedom ProjectInAdvance launched a citywide pilot program on multilingual and multicultural community education and outreach on alternatives to soda and the Oaklands new Soda Tax. We worked with four community-based organizations to reach 498 households over the course of 10 weeks using five languages. SFP also conducted an action research project with other partners to document the prevalence of the beverage industrys misinformation campaign about the Soda Tax and presented our findings to the Soda Tax Advisory Board.

They include a 10-week course on Community Organizing & Social Movements in Oakland, two weekend-long Introduction to Community Organizing (one in English and one in Spanish), and a 3-part session for new Executive Directors and Senior Managers/Organizers. A total of 112 people attended these sessions. InAdvance also provided technical assistance to three community organizations and a local foundation.
