| IRS990/Desc | 0 | LEADERSHIP PITTSBURGH (LP)THE FLAGSHIP, HIGHLY-SELECTIVE PROGRAM GEARED TOWARDS ESTABLISHED LEADERS IS DESIGNED LIKE A HANDS-ON MBA IN COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP. THE TWELVE-DAY CURRICULUM DISTRIBUTED OVER A TEN-MONTH PERIOD EXAMINES CRITICAL COMMUNITY ISSUES (SUCH AS EDUCATION, REGIONAL ECONOMY, INCLUSION, HUMAN SERVICES, REGIONAL NEIGHBORHOODS/COMMUNITIES, INFRASTRUCTURE, LOCAL GOVERNMENT, AND THE ARTS), ENHANCES CIVIC-ENGAGEMENT, DEVELOPS EXECUTIVE-LEVEL NETWORKS, AND EMPOWERS SENIOR MANAGERS TO IMPACT THEIR BUSINESS AND THE REGIONAL AGENDA AT A LEADERSHIP LEVEL. APPLICATIONS ARE ACCEPTED THROUGHOUT THE YEAR AND ARE DUE ON THE FIRST FRIDAY OF MAY EACH YEAR, WITH A FRESH COHORT OF ESTABLISHED, SUCCESSFUL PROFESSIONALS FROM THE CORPORATE, NON-PROFIT, AND PUBLIC SECTORS STARTING THE PROGRAM EVERY SEPTEMBER. PROGRAM PARTICIPATION REQUIRES AN INVESTMENT ON THE PART OF THE APPLICANT AND/OR EMPLOYER IN THE FORM OF TUITION; SCHOLARSHIP ASSISTANCE IS AVAILABLE FOR THOSE IN NEED.INCOMING PARTICIPANTS HAVE HIGH EXPECTATIONS ABOUT THE VALUE THEY WOULD DERIVE FROM PARTICIPATION. THIS PAST YEAR THE LEADERSHIP PITTSBURGH PROGRAM MET OR EXCEEDED THE EXPECTATIONS OF THE PARTICIPANTS ON THE FOLLOWING METRICS: WE ARE GRATIFIED TO REPORT THAT 96% OF THE LP PARTICIPANTS (PERHAPS OUR MOST CRITICAL CONSTITUENT GROUP IN A GIVEN YEAR) THAT COMPLETED THE POST-SURVEY SAID THEIR LEADERSHIP PITTSBURGH EXPERIENCE WAS VALUABLE.O 100% EXPANDED AND DIVERSIFIED THEIR NETWORKO 97% SAID THE PROGRAMS OPENED DOORS THAT WILL ALLOW THEM TO MORE EFFECTIVELY IMPACT OUR REGION O 96% HAVE INCREASED AWARENESS OF COMMUNITY ISSUESO 89% WERE MOTIVATED TO DO MORE AT THE LEADERSHIP LEVEL. 97% OF PARTICIPANTS REPORTED THAT THEY FELT THAT THEY NOW HAVE INCREASED FAMILIARITY WITH ALL OF THE CRITICAL ISSUE-FOCUSED TOPICS COVERED PER LP SESSION IN ADDITION TO THE QUANTITATIVE FEEDBACK, BELOW ARE SOME PARTICIPANT TESTIMONIALS REGARDING THE VALUE OF THE LEADERSHIP PITTSBURGH PROGRAM: O INSTANTLY BUILT AN AMAZING PROFESSIONAL NETWORK AND LEARNED A TON ABOUT THE CHALLENGES, AND OPPORTUNITIES, THAT FACE PITTSBURGH ACROSS MYRIAD SECTORS.O IT HAS BEEN PROBABLY THE MOST EYE-OPENING EXPERIENCE OF MY CAREER.O VERY HIGH VALUE PROGRAM FOR ME. WHILE IT WAS A SIGNIFICANT TIME COMMITMENT, IT WAS WELL WORTH THE EFFORT AND INVESTMENT.O LP ALLOWED ME TO DISCOVER WHO I AM AS A LEADER, NOT JUST TO DEVELOP SKILLS AS A LEADER.O MY HEAD IS SPINNING WITH ALL I LEARNED AND ALL OF THE DIFFERENT WAYS THAT I WANT TO GET INVOLVEDO HAVE A MUCH BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF THE PUBLIC POLICY PROCESS AND THE PLAYERS IN OUR LOCAL REGION WHO INFLUENCE IT. IF THERE IS A CAUSE IMPORTANT TO ME PERSONALLY, I NOW HAVE A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF HOW TO TAKE ACTIONO MY HEART WAS ALWAYS SHY TO FIND EXPRESSION. LP HELPED ME FIND MY INNER VOICE AND COURAGE TO EXPRESS THE TRUE NORTH COMPASS OF MY HEART. O I LEARNED MORE ABOUT PITTSBURGH AND SOUTHWESTERN PA THAN I WOULD HAVE EVER IMAGINED.O I NOW HAVE MORE CONFIDENCE IN TAKING ON ISSUES THAT REQUIRE MORE THAN THE MERE POLITICALLY CORRECT OR NEUTRAL STANCE. I NOW FEEL I CAN CONFIDENTLY LEAD OTHERS ON WHAT IS RIGHT AND BETTER FOR OUR REGION.O IT IS IMPORTANT TO FORCE YOURSELF TO BE IN "UNCOMFORTABLE" SITUATIONS IN ORDER TO GROW AND LEARN ABOUT YOURSELF. - I CONSIDER MYSELF MORE OF A QUIET LEADER, BUT AM TRYING TO DEVELOP THE ABILITY TO BECOME A LOUDER LEADER, WHEN NECESSARY |

| IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc | 0 | THE COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP COURSE FOR VETERANS: LPI'S NEW COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP COURSE FOR VETERANS (CLCV) IS DESIGNED TO PROVIDE THE VEHICLE FOR OUR REGION TO "CATCH AND LEVERAGE THE IMMENSE STRENGTH THAT POST 9/11 VETERANS BRING FOR THE BETTERMENT OF THE REGION, WHILE AT THE SAME TIME CONNECTING THESE LEADERS WITH EACH OTHER AND OTHER CIVILIAN LEADERSHIP/SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES. IT EXPOSES THEM TO NEW LEADERSHIP NETWORKS AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR SERVICE TO SOUTHWESTERN PENNSYLVANIA COMMUNITY, AND FAST-TRACKING THEIR SUCCESS IN THE REGION AS HIGH-POTENTIAL LEADERS. THROUGH PARTICIPATION IN THE SIX MONTH LONG COURSE, CLCV PARTICIPANTS HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO MEET WITH REGIONAL BUSINESS AND COMMUNITY LEADERS, ESTABLISH A GREATER UNDERSTANDING OF REGIONAL BUSINESS AND NONPROFIT ISSUES AND TRENDS, AND UTILIZE THEIR LEADERSHIP SKILLS TO ACCOMPLISH A COMMUNITY IMPACT PROJECT FOR A LOCAL NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION. THE ASSOCIATIONS AND EDUCATION OBTAINED THROUGH CLCV PROVIDE CLCV PARTICIPANTS THE PLATFORM NEEDED TO TAKE ON LEADERSHIP ROLES WITHIN THE SOUTHWESTERN PENNSYLVANIA BUSINESS AND NONPROFIT COMMUNITIES. ALSO, EACH CLCV PARTICIPANT HAS THE OPPORTUNITY TO NETWORK WITH A SELECT GROUP OF COMMUNITY CONNECTORS. COMMUNITY CONNECTORS ARE SUCCESSFUL BUSINESS AND CIVIC LEADERS THAT WILL ENGAGE WITH CLCV PARTICIPANTS IN INFORMAL SETTINGS AT SEVERAL POINTS DURING THE SIX-MONTH COURSE. SUCH CONNECTIONS BROADEN THE NETWORK OF THE VETERAN LEADERS ENROLLED IN THE COURSE. PROGRAM IMPACT METRICS ARE HEARTENING:O 100% OF THE PARTICIPANTS EVALUATED THE CLCV EXPERIENCE AS VALUABLE/VERY VALUABLEO 100% RESPONDED THAT THE COURSE ENHANCED THEIR AWARENESS OF THE PITTSBURGH REGION O 94% RESPONDED THAT THE COURSE GAVE THEM NEW TOOLS OR HONED EXISTING ONES THAT WOULD HELP IN THEIR PROFESSIONAL ROLES WITHIN THE CIVILIAN WORLD) O 94% AGREED THAT THE COURSE EXPANDED THEIR O 94 PERCENT SAID THAT THE COURSE MOTIVATED THEM TO BECOME MORE ENGAGED IN THE COMMUNITYO 81% FELT THAT THE COURSE HELPED THEM TO DEVELOP A SENSE OF CAMARADERIE AMONG THEIR CLASS OF HIGH POTENTIAL VETERANSO 100% OF THE CLASS WAS ALSO CONNECTED TO SERVICE ON NONPROFIT BOARDS INCLUDING : TOUCHSTONE CENTER FOR CRAFTS ; MESSAGE CARRIERS ; VIRTUOUS ACADEMY ; SPINA BIFIDA ASSOC.; COMMUNITY AT HOLY FAMILY MANOR; HEKIMA PLACE ; BEVERLY'S BIRTHDAYS; BREW HOUSE ; WILKINS SCHOOL COMMUNITY CENTER ; HABITAT FOR HUMANITY; SCHENLEY HEIGHTS CDP ; KEYSTONE WELLNESS ; CONTEMPORARY CRAFT ; SALTWORKS THEATER; AND URSALINE SUPPORT SERVICES" SOME HEARTENING COMMENTS ON OVERALL COURSE VALUE: "THE VALUE OF THE NETWORKING ALONE IS IMMENSE. ALONG WITH THE PERSONAL CONNECTIONS TO IMPORTANT COMMUNITY LEADERS, I BELIEVE I GAINED THE TOOLS NECESSARY TO BE A POWERFUL WEAPON FOR THE NON-PROFITS I ADVOCATE FOR IN THE CITY.""THE INTRODUCTION OF THE LP NETWORK IS AN INVALUABLE RESOURCE AND THE ABILITY TO TALK WITH THESE INDIVIDUALS IS SECOND TO NONE.""I LEARNED A GREAT DEAL OF INFORMATION IN EVERY SESSION FROM THE HISTORY OF PITTSBURGH TO THE LESSONS ABOUT NONPROFITS, I NOW FEEL I HAVE A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF THE NEEDS FOR PITTSBURGH.""IT GAVE US AN OPPORTUNITY TO CULTIVATE A STRONG COHORT NETWORK OF LIKE-MINDED PEOPLE. 2. I LEARNED ABOUT MY LEADERSHIP STYLE (RESTORATIVE, INPUT, LEARNER, STRATEGIC, INDIVIDUALIZATION) 3. I LEARNED ABOUT HOW TO CREATE A STRONG NETWORK AND WHY IT'S IMPORTANT. THE PROGRAM USES A DATA-DRIVEN MODEL OF LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT CREATED BY DR. ROBERT KELLEY OF CARNEGIE MELLON UNIVERSITY THAT OUTLINES STRATEGIC APPROACHES TO CEMENT THE PARTICIPANTS' STATUS AS STAR PERFORMERS IN THEIR PROFESSIONAL AND COMMUNITY WORK. THESE LEADERSHIP SKILLS ARE DEVELOPED IN THE CONTEXT OF COMMUNITY AWARENESS AND EXPOSURE TO THE BENEFITS AS WELL AS NEEDS OF OUR REGION. PARTICIPANTS IN THIS TEN-MONTH PROGRAM INCLUDE YOUNG LEADERS FROM DIVERSE BACKGROUNDS AND A VARIETY OF DISCIPLINES. MANY HIGH-PERFORMING FIRMS IN THE PITTSBURGH AREA UTILIZE LDI AS A PART OF THEIR TALENT MANAGEMENT STRATEGY. APPLICATIONS ARE ACCEPTED THROUGHOUT THE YEAR AND ARE DUE ON THE FIRST FRIDAY OF JUNE EACH YEAR, WITH A FRESH COHORT OF YOUNG PROFESSIONALS FROM THE CORPORATE, NON-PROFIT, AND PUBLIC SECTORS STARTING THE PROGRAM EVERY SEPTEMBER AND MEETING ONE/TWO TIMES A MONTH. PROGRAM PARTICIPATION REQUIRES AN INVESTMENT ON THE PART OF THE APPLICANT AND/OR EMPLOYER IN THE FORM OF TUITION; SCHOLARSHIP ASSISTANCE IS AVAILABLE FOR THOSE IN NEED.SURVEY MONKEY RESULTS FOR THE LDI XXIII CLASS COMPRISING OF NEARLY FIFTY YOUNG LEADERS REFLECT WELL ON THE PROGRAM'S ABILITY TO DEVELOP LEADERSHIP SKILLS, HONE PROFESSIONAL/SOCIAL NETWORKS, AND CREATE OPPORTUNITIES TO IMPACT THE COMMUNITY FOR LDI PARTICIPANTS. THE FOLLOWING QUANTITATIVE INDICATORS STRONGLY SUGGEST THAT WE HAVE BEEN SUCCESSFUL IN STRENGTHENING THE LEADERSHIP OF THE LDI XXIII CLASS THROUGH PROGRAMS, PARTNERSHIPS, AND CONNECTIONS: 100% OF PARTICIPANTS FOUND THE EXPERIENCE TO BE VERY VALUABLE 100% SAID THAT IT DIVERSIFIED THEIR NETWORKS 100% STRONGLY AGREED THAT THE PROGRAM OFFERED THE OPPORTUNITY TO HONE LEADERSHIP SKILLS AND CAPACITIES 97% OF THE CLASS FELT MORE STRONGLY MOTIVATED TO BE ENGAGED IN THE COMMUNITY AS A RESULT OF PARTICIPATING IN LDI 87% OF THE RESPONSES STRONGLY AGREED OR AGREED THAT THE POPUP! PITTSBURGH PROJECT PROVIDED THEM OPPORTUNITIES TO PRACTICE THE STAR PERFORMER SKILLS THEY LEARNED THROUGHOUT THE LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVE PROGRAM YEAR. 92% REPORTED THAT THEIR THINKING ABOUT THE CONCEPT AND PRACTICE OF LEADERSHIP CHANGED BECAUSE OF THEIR LDI EXPERIENCE. SOME QUALITATIVE IMPACT STATEMENTS ARE BELOW: O "THE ABILITY TO WORK WITH MANY YOUNG LEADERS IN OUR REGION OVER THE PAST YEAR HAS BEEN INVALUABLE. MY UNDERSTANDING OF THE IMPACTFUL WORK BEING DONE ON A DAY-TO-DAY BASIS HAS INCREASED DRAMATICALLY."O "THE LDI PROGRAM HAS EXCEEDED MY EXPECTATIONS. THE MIX OF CURRICULUM, REAL WORLD APPLICATIONS, AND NETWORKING COMBINED TO PROVIDE ME WITH A RICH AND REWARDING EXPERIENCE THAT WILL LAST ME A LIFETIME."O "I DON'T EVEN KNOW HOW TO SUMMARIZE MY EXPERIENCE AND QUANTIFY THE VALUE THAT THE PROGRAM HAS BROUGHT. EVERY ASPECT WAS ENGAGING AND INFORMATIVE, AND WELL PUT TOGETHER. I KNOW THAT SOME OF THE RELATIONSHIPS AND CONNECTIONS I HAVE MADE THROUGHOUT THE PROGRAM WILL LAST A LIFETIME."O "LDI HAS BEEN AN INCREDIBLE SOURCE OF INSPIRATION, CONNECTIONS AND KEY INFORMATION THAT I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO GATHER AND UTILIZE AT NOT ONLY MY WORK PLACE, BUT IN MY PERSONAL LIFE, AS WELL. I HAVE BEEN INSPIRED BY THE LP STAFF, ALUMNI, SPEAKERS AND ESPECIALLY MY CLASSMATES. I FEEL REJUVENATED BY THIS EXPERIENCE."O "THE EXPERIENCE HAS EXCEEDED MY EXPECTATIONS. WORKING WITH MY CLASSMATES AND THE LPI TEAM HAS BEEN A GREAT EXPERIENCE, AND THE VALUE OF EXPANDING MY NETWORK THROUGHOUT THIS EXPERIENCE, WILL BE INVALUABLE IN THE FUTURE. I'M PROUD OF WHAT WE WERE ALL ABLE TO ACCOMPLISH OVER THE PAST 8 OR 9 MONTHS, AND THE POP-UP EVENT WAS A GREAT REWARD THAT WE WERE ALL ABLE TO SHARE IN."O "I APPRECIATE NOW MORE THAN I DID THAT THERE ARE MULTIPLE WAYS TO EMBODY LEADERSHIP THAN MERELY BEING THE DECISION MAKER OR PERSON IN CHARGE (LIKE BEING A MORE EFFECTIVE FOLLOWER WHEN THAT'S WHAT A TEAM REQUIRES, OR SEEKING OUT WHITE SPACE AND FILLING IT) |
