Activity 2

Operations - the core mission of the organization continues to be fostering a clean and safe downtown. A downtown that is perceived as safe and clean is likely to attract people for business and pleasure; downtown is, in fact, safe. According to recent fbi statistics, pittsburgh is one of the safest largest cities in the country, ranking 10th in 2003. Keeping downtown streets well lit, policed, and clean all contribute to keeping downtown safe. The correlation between clean streets and safe streets is widely recognized; a low prevalence of litter, debris and graffiti generally results in a low incidence of serious crime. The organization's clean sweep ambassadors log more than 10,000 miles annually picking up some 4 tons of trash, and their strong presence downtown helps to enhance public safety

Activity 3

Housing - in 2006, the organization incorporated the downtown living initiative as a program. As part of our mission, we are dedicated to enhancing downtown living opportunities and lifestyle. The program focus is to promote existing living options as well as to develop an environment conducive to creating new ones. The organization has been instrumental in ensuring that the downtown neighborhood is clean, safe, and inviting in its hope to increase awareness of downtown living.
