IRS990/Desc0DURING 2022 THE MUSEUM HAD OVER 10,920 VISITORS, INCLUDING SENIOR CITIZEN GROUPS, SCHOOL GROUPS, GUIDED TOURS, AND GUESTS ATTENDING OUR HERITAGE SKILLS CLASSES. IMPROVEMENTS TO BUILDINGS, SUCH AS ADDING HANDICAP ACCESSIBLE DECKING AND EXHIBIT SPACE TO THE MOOREHOUSE CABIN, WERE ACCOMPLISHED. A NEW CHILDREN'S VILLAGE WAS STARTED WITH THE ADDITION OF HISTORICALLY ACCURATE LOG STRUCTURES IN 1/4 SCALE TO REPRESENT AN APPALACHIAN LOG CABIN COMPLETE WITH A FIREPLACE, WOODSTOVE, TABLE AND CHAIRS; AND AN APPALACHIAN CHAPEL/SCHOOL HOUSE, WITH A PODIUM, BENCHES, AND A SCHOOL DESK. THESE NEW BUILDINGS WERE BUILT USING HAND HEWN LOGS, BOTH SALVAGED AND NEWLY HEWN. THE CHILDREN'S VILLAGE WAS CONSTRUCTED FOR THE PURPOSE OF HAVING AN EDUCATIONAL, HANDS-ON PLAY AREA FOR THE CHILDREN WHO VISIT THE MUSEUM WITH THEIR FAMILIES AND SCHOOL GROUPS. IT IS A VERY POPULAR AREA OF THE MUSEUM AND OFFERS CHILDREN AN OPPORTUNITY TO USE THEIR IMAGINATION TO RELIVE LIFE IN APPALACHIA.
