“We are proud of the fact that in 2017 we were able to support and further develop our three sub-missions. Examples are as follows: inspire: as a national historic landmark, inspire people - especially children - to learn and appreciate information technology to improve their lives and career opportunities. Space exploration week: infoage developed a pilot "space exploration week" summer program for school age children from first through twelfth grade. The program was a huge success as it was oversubscribed within a week after being advertised. The culmination of the week long program presented the students with the opportunity to record them bouncing their voices off the moon using our 60 foot tlm 18 radio telescope. The 60 year old tlm 18 was restored to operating condition in 2016 by infoage, princeton university and the harris corporation. The summer program was so successful that we will be having three sessions this summer (2018). In cooperation with the nj chapter of the ieee, over 100 budding scientists and engineers from various new jersey high schools spent an evening at infoage under the supervision of infoage docents breadboarding a simple fm transmitter and doing long-distance radio listeming. In addition, infoage brought unique chemistry lab experiments to neptune high school by one of our docents who has a phd in chemistry. Spaceflight lecture series: infoage initiated a series of monthly lectures and discussions at the infoage space exploration center (isec) presented by a nasa ambassador that addressed subjects from "project gemini: how nasa learned to fly and work in space" to "new horizons at pluto: discoveries at the dwarf planet". Our black history exhibit opened in february highlighting the accomplishments of the many black scientists and engineers who worked at the evans area especially the work of astrophysicist dr. Walter mcafee who was an instrumental member of the project diana team that was responsible for the first lunar radar echo experiments in 1946. Dr. Mcafee was one of three scientists on the first infoage wall of honor inductees in 2006. The exhibit was developed in conjunction with the monmouth university history department. Remember: as new jersey's wwii living memorial, honor the accomplishments and service of veterans, civilians and military contractors by recognizing their contributions and by preserving the history of this unique historic site. Wall of honor: the infoage "wall of honor" is an annual event dedicated to giving recognition to those citizens, engineers and scientists who, by their lives or life's work, have made significant contributions to the defense of our nation with their accomplishments at the us army's former camp evans and fort monmouth; there are currently 28 names on the wall. This year's reception raised over $20,000 for infoage. Veterans appreciation day: in cooperation with vfw post 1838, infoage hosted over 500 veterans with a day of food, beverages and entertainment but most importantly over 20 veterans support and service organizations were on site to assist the veterans with everything from jobs to health services and counseling. Infoage hosts an annual wwii weekend in august where presentations are made of various aspects of wwii, wwii veterans are recognized and honored, and new exhibits are highlighted in our wwii miniatures and military technology museums. Develop: as a former army top secret r&d site, establish an interactive hands-on learning center focused on the evolution and preservation of communications, electronics and related technologies developed here and elsewhere. We applied for and secured a us hud community development block grant for $62,000 to improve the ada access to our campus by providing five ramps for building access and refurbishing three bathrooms to ada standards.
