Mission and Program Overview

Mission

NONE

The camp evans historic district is a very significant historic resource on both a national and international level. It is important to preserve so future generations can learn what the 'greatest generation' did on the home front to save democracy. In august 1945, president truman stated, "the battle of the laboratories held fateful risks for us as well as the battles of the air, land and sea and now we have won the battle of the laboratories." in 2000, the british broadcasting company (bbc) sent a film crew to camp evans to film part of their documentary series, 'science at war - radar: the invention that saved democracy'. Many historians of technology characterize ww ii as the 'radar war'. Sir winston churchill called the development and use of radar the 'secret war'. Camp evans was the army's secret radar laboratory.

Financial Statement Notes

PART III, LINE 1A:

As a history preservation organization we have been given artifacts and have rescued documents, artifacts and books from destruction as we worked to create an organization, save the site and perform our educational mission. We have captured many oral histories of wwii veterans and radar pioneers that have been used by students, researchers and accessed by historians and writers. An inventory of the items accumulated that were considered as worthless has shown an amazing value. As example, a large pile of marconi drawings saved from the attic of the new brunswick wireless station prior to its demo is now valued as collectables and worth $188,000. Together the artifacts, books and documents now under infoage stewardship are over $1,080,000. Infoage is fortunate to have an excellent environment of document preservation in the marconi hotel. Our onsite partners own artifacts and documents in their museums. Together onsite there are over $1.2 million worth of historic items saved thanks to the space infoage offers to preserve them. Infoage is so honored to have the opportunity to keep the following history from fading into oblivion. The site was involved in early global wireless communications, ww i international trans-oceanic communications, ww ii home-front radar development, early space communications, early satellite development and weather research, cold war electronics development, a site wisconsin senator joseph mccarthy visited to investigate suspected communist infiltration and an important development site in the creation of the electronic battlefield that has maintained united states position as the leading world power. The 37-acre camp evans historic district is the heart of the former marconi wireless corporation of america belmar high powered trans-oceanic station (1912-1917), u.s. Naval radio station at belmar (1917-1920), an original radio corporation of america station (1920-1926), u.s. Army signal corps radar laboratory (1941-46), and evans area (1946 - 2006). As further evidence of the significance of the property, the state of new jersey has recognized the site as the wwii living memorial by a 2011 resolution. The district is listed on the state of new jersey and the national register of historic places. The site was recommended for national historic landmark (nhl) consideration by the nhl theme study - wwii and the american home front (2008). In 2012 the secretary of the interior designated camp evans an nhl. The institute of electrical and electronics engineers has recognized projects at the site twice in their milestones program of significant technical achievements in engineering.
