“Njio produced 3 free symphonic concerts for the community during the year. One of the concerts was a family concert. The winner of the njio concerto competition performed in one of the concerts. The final 2 conerts scheduled for may and june 2020 were canceled due to the covid 19 pandemic. Njio held 19 rehearsals in advance of the 3 concerts which served as learning experiences for its members. In addition njio's outreach group performed at 7 venues-primarily senior centers, assisted living or nursing homes to bring music to those who cannot easily attend concerts. We held a successful golden strings program in conjunction with the westfield y in which we taught adults to play a string instrument in 8 weeks. Njio held 2 chamber music workshops in july and auust 2019. When the last two concerts were canceled due to covid, njio hosted 2 free virtual programs - a 3 part series on mussorgsky's pictures at an exhibition and a 4 part webinar titled the evolution of music. These programs were free and open to the public. Njio members have ranged in age from 6 to 94 and have come from over 44 communities thoughout new jersey.”
