“Njio produced 4 full symphonic concerts for the community during the year. One of the concerts was a family concert. The winner and runner-up of njio young artists concerto competition performed in 2 of the concerts. Njio held 28 rehearsals in advance of the 4 concerts which served as learning experiences for its members. In addition njios outreach group performed at 12 venues-primarily senior centers, assisted living or nuring homes to bring music to those who cannot easily attend njio concerts. The repertoire is light classical and the ensemble consists of 4 to 20 members depending on the requirement of the venue. Njio hosted two 4 week summer chamber music workshops. Njio members have ranged in age from 6 to 94 and have come from over 44 communities throughout new jersey. Njio started a golden strings program in 2016 which provides free instrument rental and freeinstruction to seniors desiring to learn how to play an instrument and participate in a beginner ensemble. A group met 10 times and the ptogram was enthusiastically received.njio intends to krrp and expand the program to other venues in 2017.”
