PUBLIC INFORMATION: Information provided for public, academic, medical and other persons interested in obtaining information about narcolepsy, its causes, symptoms and treatments. Creation and distribution of educational materials and brochures, maintenance of website, interactive forum discussion and social media outreach. Average of 5,000 web hits per month. At least 12 outreach, informational and planning meetings were attended by Dr. Honig and/or multiple board members during the year. The school nurse outreach program connected at least 500 schools and school nurses with information to identify students with uncontrollable sleepiness and ensure they are properly evaluated. School nurses also educate teachers, psychologists, special education personnel and other school administrators about narcolepsy and its effect on a student's ability to learn.

NEWSLETTER & MEMBERSHIP: Our quarterly newsletter "The Network" is for many people the only source of information about narcolepsy. The newsletter is distributed to the membership as well as to many non-member sleep centers and professionals. Each newsletter provides information on diagnosis, effective treatments, resources, updates detailing new narcolepsy research, ideas for coping, personal stories and interviews, industry news, legal and insurance guidance and much more. Average of 1,500 newsletters are printed and mailed quarterly. Support group assistance is provided to members. NN helps support groups and encourage grassroots outreach and education. Many support groups held picnics and NN was pleased to provide some financial assistance. Approximately 50 complimentary memberships were provided to those in need during the 2011 year.
