Activity 2

HEALTH AND WELL-BEING FOR ALL: Helping people of all ages and abilities develop health in spirit, mind and body is at the core of the YMCA movement. Our programs are designed to help people create realistic goals for self-improvement and emphasize disease prevention through regular exercise, proper nutrition, stress management and health education. Sports programs for youth, families and adults promote teamwork, interaction and development of social and physical skills. In light of the rising obesity rates in this country, our YMCA participates in the Activate America initiative and engages in a variety of events and community activities designed to help the "at risk population" develop habits and relationships that lead to more active lifestyles. Our YMCA Aquatic programs are part of the Y's overall goal of building healthy Spirit, Mind and Body. In addition to providing specific swimming and water safety skills, they promote good health through regular exercise. Our Water Fitness programs are exercise programs that keep seniors active and flexible; our Progressive Swim Lessons are programs that develop aquatic skills in youth from infants through teens; our Family Swim program gives adults and children shared time in the pool to appreciate one another and promote intergenerational relationships. Our Swim Team program promotes teamwork, self confidence and leadership. Our services are offered at affordable fees for the community at large, with reasonable accommodations for those with special needs and with financial assistance available for those who cannot afford the full fee. In 2011 we served approximately 13,000 persons in our community and provided financial assistance in the amount of over $43,500.

Activity 3

HOLISTIC DEVELOPMENT OF CHILDREN AND YOUTH: The Ocean County YMCA is committed to the development of our Youth by building healthy spirit, mind and body through a myriad of membership and program opportunities. Our core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility are incorporated throughout all that we do. Our state licensed Mulberry Bush Pre-school program for ages 3-5 is designed to help children develop physically, socially, emotionally and educationally in a safe, warm and friendly environment. Our Arts and Enrichment programs offer a diverse variety of programs ranging from Theatre to Dance, to Singing and Cooking. In addition, we offer other programs and many opportunities for children to socialize, develop motor skills and build self confidence. All of these programs are offered to children of all ages and abilities. In 2011 we served approximately 378 persons in our community and provided financial assistance in the amount of over $6,200.
