IRS990ScheduleF/GrantsToOrgOutsideUSGrp/PurposeOfGrantTxt15J887N Care for Kids Development Project, Bali Nakula Plaza B1, Jl Nakula, Legian, Bali 80119, Indonesia The Care for Kids Bali Development Project seeks to provide children with a viable future by enabling up to tertiary education and assistance to seek a career in their chosen field.Indonesian women in Bali continue to lack knowledge of their own reproductive and general health. Where knowledge is available, it is often a combination of religious beliefs, "old wives tales", traditional herbal remedies and medical advice. A combination of religious and cultural beliefs and a lack of education therefore mean that there are unnecessary and unwanted pregnancies. If the baby is lucky to be born alive, then they may be abandoned in a rice field and left to die, put in an orphanage or sold. Currently the Jodie O'Shea Home provides a care facility for 89 children to date. The ages of the children range from 7 months to 21 years.
IRS990ScheduleF/GrantsToOrgOutsideUSGrp/PurposeOfGrantTxt16J904N Bali Children's Foundation: Bali Children Foundation works in poor agrarian communities in remote Bali. These communities typically show dropout rates from primary school to junior high school in the range 30 - 75%. Some children don't make it to school at all, some drop out as early as grade 5 in primary school. Bali Children Education Scholarship discovered that children are more likely to remain in primary and high school if BCF Scholarships are available and direct teaching is accessible. Communities in which we have been active for three years or more have zero primary school dropout rates and are showing close to 90% graduation (from senior high school) rates. BCF has been successful in these high dropout districts, by providing direct supplemental teaching and scholarships. BCF conducts "English in the Village" and "Computer in the Village" programs on weekends. Tertiary graduate students teach the classes, in a payback model that builds sustainability.
