We empower the community by working with them in a way that builds their confidence, and brings their skills and gifts to the forefront. The poor are often told that they are unskilled, not needed and unwanted.

Established in 1970, EHA serves the poor and marginalized people in rural and semi-urban parts of North, Central and Northeast India. With a catchment population of nearly seven million, EHA treats more than 700,000 patients each year. The service presently functions at 8 hospitals in 5 states and Shalom Delhi, serving impoverished communities that have no access to such care. Patients in need of Palliative care include those with cancer, HIV/AIDs, neurological damage and organ failure. Trained Palliative Care teams provide wholistic care & support to patients and their families.
IRS990ScheduleF/GrantsToOrgOutsideUSGrp/PurposeOfGrantTxt2The YKS and YBP HIV Intervention Program was developed to eliminate barriers to care and to provide free and early HIV and sexually transmitted infection testing and treatment in Bali and Jakarta. The two organizations implementing this project; Yayasan Bali Peduli (YBP) and Yayasan Kasih Suwitno (YKS) bring experience of four models of HIV care for same sex male partners in Indonesia: a partnership with a physician's general practice; a partnership with a community health center (puskesmas), a partnership with a hospital and clinic; and, mobile testing services. Two services are directly supported by YKS and two are YBP programs. All services are provided free of charge, high-quality, and one stop and non-discriminatory. Through provision of support for four models of care for MSM and other groups at risk of HIV in Bali and Jakarta, YKS and YBP will contribute to early access for testing and treatment of HIV and STI. A key outcome of this support is reduction of transmission of HIV.

With over 900 children having been served, currently over 70 children in care. This project restores babies, children and youth of Bulawayo to a state of physical, emotional and spiritual wellbeing, sufficient for them to proceed/return to a normal, well-adjusted lifestyle, preferably within the framework of their family and/or social structure. A home for abandoned/unwanted, pregnant and sexually abused children is on-site. Children are equipped with a wide range of skills and are given the nurturing necessary to develop social skills and positive self-esteem. All care-giving staff, center management and volunteers receive and maintain the highest levels of appropriate training for their appointed position and key responsibility areas.

This project aims to reduce poverty through sustainable agricultural development and education. This project also has a complex of living units and school on 90 acres. It has a primary school which holistic care for around 2,000 children. The project provides clean and purified drinking water and quality food to the children and to prevent the spread of various water borne diseases like Typhoid, cholera, etc. The project aims to teach the community how to cultivate rice, corn, beans, bananas, coconuts and ground nuts. Through this agricultural development/education, job opportunities can be generated for the poor village youth and enable the beneficiaries to become self-sufficient - providing food security for the community. Gender equality is also a significant goal of the project - women who are often neglected in the target community will be given priority.

Operated by the Kianh Foundation (KF), the day center was established in April 2012 to provide a purpose-built center for children with disabilities in this area. This area is traditionally a large catchment area for children being put into government orphanages. Furthermore, during the Vietnam War, Dien Ban was in the 10% most heavily bombed districts and was extensively sprayed with dioxins. As a result, along with widespread poverty, Dien Ban has extremely high occurrence rates of disability, special needs and congenital disorders - but has next to no services. The center provides the children with education, physio, speech therapy, and life-skills training, within a caring and supportive environment. Very importantly, it keeps the children with their families.

Bali Kids operates a mobile medical service 3 to 4 times per week servicing orphanages and villages. Children are treated on site but those requiring special care are brought back to stay at Bali Kids Clinic. The center is open to any children registered in Bali's orphanages who need medical attention. Children from four villages in the East of Bali also receive free treatment and care. Children needing to be hospitalized are provided pre and postoperative care at the center. Short and long term accommodation is available. Bali Kids assists children who are HIV+ by providing and supporting their medical care and needs. Since 2007,most children are born HIV positive due their parents status. Hospital appointments, preparations and funding for surgery are provided by Bali Kids. Bali Kids is non-religious and accepts children from all orphanages on the island.

The COPE project works to overcome the burden of UXO by providing survivors and other people with disabilities access to orthotic and prosthetic devices, and rehabilitation services including physiotherapy, occupational therapy and pediatric services in partnership with Government managed Centre of Medical Rehabilitation (CMR) and provincial rehabilitation centers. The COPE project also provides extensive in service training through a mentoring program to support local staff and ensure long term sustainability of services, and an outreach program to connect with, identify and treat people living with disability in rural areas. The COPE Visitor Centre works to increase support and advocacy through raising awareness.

(COAT) in conjunction with local orphanages in the Henan Province in China. The project incorporates family group foster homes, education and vocational training programs. Local staff are trained and employed by COAT in childcare, education, administration and logistics. Children's medical, emotional and psychological needs are met by workers. Children are referred from orphanages in the state run organizations in Henan Province. Children in Xi Wang Le Yuan (our school) come from our Eagles Wings Foster Homes, from the CWI, from New Hope Foster Home, local foster families (fostering children from the CWI), staff families and also from local families who cannot otherwise afford special education for their children.

This project aims to combat the poverty created through lack of education by providing English classes for students, providing playgroups that are designed to encourage reading amongst 1-4 year olds, providing books in a library, and the creation of leadership programs and debating teams for high school students. Another objective of the project is to improve the living standards of the families living in the community. This will be done through the education of students on personal hygiene, providing annual health and dental care checks, and HIV/AIDs, drug, environmental, road safety and water safety presentations and seminars that will create awareness on those often ignored topics.

Delhi, with a large migrant population, is considered a highly vulnerable state for HIV/AIDS. It is estimated that there are approximately 50,000 people living with HIV/AIDs (PLWHAs) in the city (HIV/AIDS scenario in Delhi - Statistics by the Government of India, 2007). Through its Medical Care Program, Shalom runs a Health Centre which has an out-patient clinic, a 10 bed in-patient ward and a laboratory for basic investigations. This is staffed by 2 doctors, 6 nurses, and a lab technician. The Goal is to improve the quality of life of People living with HIV/AIDS in Delhi by providing access to compassionate, good quality and affordable medical care.
