IRS990ScheduleF/GrantsToOrgOutsideUSGrp/PurposeOfGrantTxt0The Direct Reach Ethiopia (DRE) Project was established in 2013 to support Hope For Children Organization Ethiopia (HFCOE) to assist the region's most marginalized and vulnerable children. The project seeks to deliver aid directly to where it is needed most. Children are placed with extended or transitional families and their education is supported through sponsorship. The project seeks to transform the lives of the children and their education. HFCOE has nurtured hundreds of abandoned and vulnerable children whose families have suffered from the HIV/AIDS pandemic. These vulnerable young children have been encouraged to grow into empowered young adults. . Many of the children who were assisted in the early days return to provide their assistance to the next generation. The emphasis on education, especially for girls who are culturally disadvantaged, has produced very meaningful outcomes and empowered, responsible citizens willing to help those around them out of poverty.

This area is traditionally a large catchment area for children being put into government orphanages. During the Vietnam War, Dien Ban was in the 10% most heavily bombed districts and was extensively sprayed with dioxins. As a result, along with widespread poverty, Dien Ban has extremely high occurrence rates of disability, special needs and congenital disorders - but has next to no services. IRS990ScheduleF/GrantsToOrgOutsideUSGrp/PurposeOfGrantTxt13The Care for Kids Bali Development Project seeks to provide children with a viable future by enabling up to tertiary education and assistance to seek a career in their chosen field. Indonesian women in Bali continue to lack knowledge of their own reproductive and general health. Where knowledge is available, it is often a combination of religious beliefs, "old wives tales", traditional herbal remedies and medical advice. A combination of religious and cultural beliefs and a lack of education therefore mean that there are unnecessary and unwanted pregnancies. If the baby is lucky to be born alive, then they may be abandoned in a rice field and left to die, put in an orphanage or sold. Currently Jodie O'Shea provides a care facility for 89 children to date, ages 7 months to 21 years. The philosophy is to provide a loving and caring environment, a healthy lifestyle, well balanced diet and nutrition, and all levels of education from preschool to University producing responsible adults.
IRS990ScheduleF/GrantsToOrgOutsideUSGrp/PurposeOfGrantTxt14Bali Children Foundation works in poor agrarian communities in remote Bali. These communities typically show dropout rates from primary school to junior high school in the range 30 - 75%. Some children don't make it to school at all, some drop out as early as grade 5 in primary school. Bali Children Education Scholarship discovered that children are more likely to remain in primary and high school if BCF Scholarships are available and direct teaching is accessible. Communities in which we have been active for three years or more have zero primary school dropout rates and are showing close to 90% graduation (from senior high school) rates. BCF has been successful in these high dropout districts, by providing direct supplemental teaching and scholarships. BCF conducts "English in the Village" and "Computer in the Village" programs on weekends. Tertiary graduate students teach the classes, in a payback model that builds sustainability.
IRS990ScheduleF/GrantsToOrgOutsideUSGrp/PurposeOfGrantTxt15The YKS and YBP HIV Intervention Program was developed to eliminate barriers to care and to provide free and early HIV and sexually transmitted infection testing and treatment in Bali and Jakarta. The two organizations implementing this project; Yayasan Bali Peduli (YBP) and Yayasan Kasih Suwitno (YKS) bring experience of four models of HIV care for same sex male partners in Indonesia: a partnership with a physician's general practice; a partnership with a community health center (puskesmas), a partnership with a hospital and clinic; and, mobile testing services. Two services are directly supported by YKS and two are YBP programs. All services are provided free of charge, high-quality, and one stop and non-discriminatory. Through provision of support for four models of care for MSM and other groups at risk of HIV in Bali and Jakarta, YKS and YBP will contribute to early access for testing and treatment of HIV and STI. A key outcome is reduction of transmission of HIV.
