THE NETHOPE SOLUTIONS CENTER IS A SPACE WHERE NETHOPE MEMBER NGOS AND LIKE-MINDED ORGANIZATIONS IN THE INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND CONSERVATION SECTORS CAN FIND AND COLLABORATE AROUND IT AND INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY (ICT) SOLUTIONS TO A FULL RANGE OF BUSINESS PROBLEMS AND FIELD CHALLENGES. THE OVERALL GOAL OF THE NETHOPE SOLUTIONS CENTER IS TO FACILITATE STAKEHOLDER COLLABORATION ON ICT SOLUTIONS IN DEVELOPMENT THROUGH EDUCATION, SHARED LEARNING, DISCUSSION, RATINGS AND REVIEWS.IN 2014 A NEW NETHOPE SOLUTIONS WEBSITE WAS LAUNCHED THAT PROVIDED A MORE STREAMLINED, USER-FRIENDLY LOCATION FOR THE HOSTING OF TIMELY, RELEVANT AND THOUGHT-PROVOKING CONTENT TO GUIDE AND IMPROVE THE SOCIOECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT PROCESS FOR NGOS, DONORS AND TECHNOLOGY PROVIDERS. DURING FY 2014 THE SITE HOSTED 43 WEBINARS AND PUBLISHED 425 CONTENT POSTINGS, ATTRACTING 15,116 USERS FROM 167 COUNTRIES - FOR 23,566 SESSIONS. |

IN FY 2014 NETHOPE RESPONDED TO TYPHOON HAIYAN AND BEGAN CLOSELY MONITORING THE EMERGING EBOLA OUTBREAK.TYPHOON HAIYAN: IN NOVEMBER 2013, THE LARGEST TYPHOON IN RECORDED HISTORY CUT ACROSS THE SOUTHERN MOST POPULATED AREA OF THE PHILIPPINES. OVER 14.1 MILLION FILIPINOS WERE AFFECTED BY THE DISASTER AND OVER 1.1 MILLION HOUSES WERE DAMAGED. DURING THE IMMEDIATE DISASTER RESPONSE, NETHOPE WORKED AS PART OF THE UN EMERGENCY TELECOMMUNICATION CLUSTER (ETC) TO COORDINATE AND ESTABLISH CONNECTIVITY IN THE WORST AFFECTED AREAS. NETHOPE, ALONG WITH ITS PARTNER BRITISH TELECOM, ESTABLISHED VSAT DATA SERVICES AND VOIP VOICE SERVICES. NETHOPE ACQUIRED SIX KU-BAND VSAT TERMINALS AND RECEIVED DONATED SATELLITE BANDWIDTH. EBOLA OUTBREAK: TOWARDS THE END OF THE YEAR NETHOPE BEGAN CLOSELY MONITORING WHAT WOULD BECOME THE EBOLA OUTBREAK IN WEST AFRICA. NETHOPE BEGAN EXAMINING WAYS TO SUPPORT THE EFFORTS OF NGOS IN THE AREA, PARTICULARLY IN ICT AND INFORMATION MANAGEMENT. THIS INFORMATION PLAYED A VITAL ROLE IN HELPING NETHOPE CONDUCT OUTREACH TO ITS DONOR COMMUNITY AND TARGETING RESOURCES TO AREAS MOST IN NEED. NETHOPE BEGAN ITS OFFICIAL RESPONSE TO THE EBOLA OUTBREAK IN AUGUST 2014. |
