IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc0Active Minds Speakers Bureau:Embodying the notion that the best way to break stigma around mental health is through personal contact, Active Minds has recruited and trained 16 professional speakers to tell their stories around mental health in an engaging, educational, and powerful manner. Members of the speakers bureau travel the country through the year giving keynote presentations at high schools and colleges; to parents and administrators; and at conferences and national events. In 2015-2016, the Speakers Bureau held 100 speaking engagements in 29 states, reaching 41,599 young people. The Bureau added two new speakers this year, Pablo Campos and Kai Roberts.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActyOtherGrp/Desc0Public Education and Awareness Campaigns:Active Minds has created Awareness Day programming for our chapters and supporters such as Suicide Prevention Month, National Day without Stigma, Stress Less Week, National Eating Disorders Awareness Week, Pledge for Mental Health Unity and PostSecret U. During these programs, large numbers of students and community members are introduced to mental health topics that are very relevant and often misunderstood, in an approachable way. By educating through innovative and relevant means including a comprehensive website at www.activeminds.org, and an interactive presence on Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube, Active Minds aims to raise public consciousness and change the way mental health issues are understood and publicly approached. In 2015-2016, 976 campuses and communities ran Active Minds Public Education and Awareness Campaigns, with an estimated reach of more than 140,000 people.
IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActyOtherGrp/Desc1Send Silence Packing, suicide awareness program: Suicide claims the lives of more than 1,100 college students each year and each one of those deaths touches us all. Send Silence Packing is an award winning exhibit of 1,100 donated backpacks representing the number of college student lives lost to suicide each year. Active Minds has collected and continues to collect backpacks and personal stories in memory or in honor of loved ones impacted by suicide. By displaying backpacks with personal stories that put a face to lives lost to suicide, Send Silence Packing carries the message that preventing suicide is not just about lowering statistics, but also about saving the lives of students, daughters, sons, brothers, sisters and friends. In 2015-2016, Send Silence Packing was exhibited on 26 college and 3 high school campuses.
