Mission and Program Overview

Mission

Our mission is to save lives by improving pre-hospital emergency care. In 2022, the foundation funded the training of 22 new paramedics, as well as the continuing education of 270 current paramedics, for fire and ems departments throughout the puget sound region; promoted pulsepoint, a mobile application that will alert cpr-trained citizens to a nearby sudden cardiac arrest in order to get cpr started in the critical lifesaving minutes before first responders arrive for king and snohomish counties; provided emergency medical technician (emt) scholarships to help remove financial barriers for individuals interested in pursuing a career in emergency medicine; continued our cpr and first aid training programs to include virtual formats and expand our target audience; and purchased much needed emergency and training equipment for 13 area fire departments, as well as paramedic training.

Medic one foundation saves lives by improving pre-hospital emergency care. Since 1974, we have invested $30 million in paramedic training, research to improve patient outcomes, equipment to help fire departments save more lives, and cpr/first aid training for citizen responders. We rely solely on contributions to accomplish our lifesaving mission.

Governance Explanations

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11B

The form 990 will be reviewed by senior staff, the president of the board, and the finance committee before filing. It will also be forwarded to all board members for comments. The treasurer, executive director and the director of finance will have final authorization of the 990 before filing.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12C

The board of directors and key staff sign a conflict of interest statement annually. If a conflict is noted, it is addressed by the committee of directors and if the committee feels there is a conflict, the person is asked to take a leave of absence until the conflict is resolved.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15

As of 2022, all compensation is reviewed and determined by the committee on directors and executive committee. Salaries are based on comparable data from at least two philanthropy surveys and local market values. Once approved they are presented in the budget to the finance committee for review, then included in the budget presented to the board of directors, where the budget is approved.
