In addition, the organization has been determined by the internal revenue service not to be a "private foundation" within the meaning of section 509 (a) of the internal revenue code. The organization's forms 990 for the years ending september 30, 2018, 2017, 2016, and 2015 are subject to examination by the irs, generally for three years after they were filed. Generally accepted accounting principles require tax effects from an uncertain tax position to be recognized in the financial statements only if the position is more likely than not to be sustained if the position were to be challenged by a taxing authority.
