The theme of the play, ALIVE AND WELL, reflects the experiences of an aging population who face challenges with resilience and humor.By utilizing an intimate setting, ITs main-stage productions create an impacting relationship between audience and actors. In fulfilling the mission, Invisible Theatre provides a home-away-from-home for prestigious guest artists, and continues to provide jobs for Tucsons theatre professionals by hiring over 70 local designers, actors, playwrights, directors, musicians, educators, and choreographers each year. Free-to-the-public, culturally relevant special events and quality childrens programming remain pillars of Invisible Theatres commitment to community engagement and arts education. Invisible Theatre focuses on affordable tickets without sacrificing theatrical professionalism. IT serves the needs of the public at large in many ways, including main stage productions, educational outreach, special events, seminars, and workshops. IT operates at approximately 86% capacity. In addition to the diversity of main stage programming, special events also cultivate interest in communities not often served by the mainstream arts community. These include the LGBT and disabled communities. We present seminars that encourage community dialogue & feature dynamic guest speakers. We also offer gallery shows that promote local visual artists. This multifaceted programming approach broadens our audience base and deepens their participation.There is also community involvement through volunteer opportunities such as teaching assistants, office volunteers, and ushers. IT is accessible for challenged patrons. Enhanced patron participation is achieved through early seating, special wheelchair seating, pre/post-show seminars, and discounted and complimentary tickets for intergenerational matinees. IT is a leader in special needs arts education programming that utilizes challenged artists and provides outreach programs that bring live theatre to those populations unable to attend regularly scheduled performances. Ultimately, it is the programming that is a magnet for community support, and our programming offers tremendous diversity, reflecting unique stories that celebrate a shared recognition of the human experience. Our staff and board reflect the rich tapestry of our community. Our artistic ensemble brings a wealth of experience that culminates in programming that brings diverse populations together through the magic of live theatre. The playwright Thornton Wilder said, I regard the theatre as the greatest of all art forms, the most immediate way in which a human being can share with another the sense of what it is to be a human being. Invisible Theatre does just that. Our main stage season includes diverse themes that appeal to different members of the community. One season ticket holder wrote, Invisible Theatre provides a safe environment for us to experience things we do not see in everyday life. Mayor Rothschild commented that IT should be applauded for 45 years of commitment to professionalism, artistic excellence, and accessibility, freedom of expression, diverse programming, creative challenge, community service, and outreach programs. Invisible Theatres PROJECT PASTIME makes an important contribution to arts education for special needs students. Managing Artistic Director Susan Claassen was selected as one of 48 MOST INTRIGUING WOMEN OF ARIZONA. It is a project that honors women who are making transformative contributions to the progress of Arizona. Because of ITs commitment to community, we donate time and hundreds of tickets to non-profit organizations for their fundraising efforts.
