Mission

A new leaf's mission of "helping families changing lives" allows for the delivery of life-saving programs at 28 locations across maricopa county, serving 22,047 individuals with housing, health and community services.

A new leaf is committed to its mission of "helping families changing lives". Since 1971, the agency has provided vital behavioral health and social services in maricopa county. In fy15, nearly 15,000 individuals in need participated in a new leaf's continuum of services including: emergency and transitional shelter for victims of domestic violence and the homeless; service enriched housing for chronically homeless, special needs and low-income clients; affordable housing; residential and community based treatment for at risk youth; advocacy programs; financial literacy, community based behavioral health; and foster care/adoption services.

The articles of incorporation were amended and restated on september 24, 2014.

Substantial changes to the articles included amending the organization's primary tax exempt purpose to be as follows: 1. The development and implementation of innovative, culturally appropriate, effective and efficient human service focused programs and capital improvements based on the foundational value and vision that, with the right supports, individuals and families can change their lives. These program s span the human condition including but not necessarily limited to anti-poverty, homelessness, health and wellness, and recovery in the broadest sense from cradle to grave. 2. To plan, develop, manage and provide affordable housing and community and economic development programs to low and moderate income individuals and families. 3. To plan, develop, manage and provide permanent supportive housing and transitional housing and to provide supportive services programs with the goal of optimizing self-sufficiency among homeless individuals and families. 4. To contract for or assume rental assistance contracts from federal, state or local governmental agencies, in connection with any housing project owned or operated by the corporation or any of its affiliated entities. 5. To transact any and all other lawful business for which nonprofit corporations may be incorporated under the laws of the state of arizona, as they may be amended from time to time. The amendment also eliminated members, who previously elected the board. The organization is now exclusively governed by the board of directors. The bylaws were also amended to omit membership. The corporation will not have members and all affairs will be governed by its board of directors. The number of directors has been limited to a maximum of 50. All directors must be over 21 years of age and need not be residents of arizona. The active and emeritus classes of directors have been abolished. All voting directors have a single status. The board may appoint honorary, non-voting, directors. The term of a director shall be three years and directors may serve successive terms. A director may be removed, with out without cause, by the majority of the full board of directors.

All members of the board of directors and key leadership staff complete conflict of interest forms as required under a new leaf, inc.'s conflict of interest policy. The organization's management team monitors compliance with policies and use of vendors, agencies, professionals or other outside organizations to ensure compliance with policies. Board members recuse themselves from discussions or votes when potential conflicts of interest arise. Board members annually complete a disclosure of conflict of interest statement which is maintained by thre governance committee and the ceo and forwarded to any governmental agencies which require such disclosure.

The ceo's salary is determined annually by the executive committee of the board of directors in conjunction with an annual performance review. The executive committee considers comparative market data for similar positions in comparable organizations in setting the annual salary for the ceo. The ceo follows a similar process in setting the salaries of key employees and officers of the organizations with annual performance reviews and analyses of market data for similar positions in comparable organization. The board of directors approves the salaries of key employee and other officers in the budget approval process for the organization.
