Mission and Program Overview

Mission

Public Invention is a non-profit dedicated to invention in the public, for the public. Our activities will consist of a research activities to create new inventions that benefit the public, specifically the poor and distressed. We will also engage in community building activities to help recruit volunteers interested in creating new inventions and helping develop and validate the skills necessary for those individuals be successful.

Our purpose is to invent "In the public, for the Public" through research activities to create new inventions that benefit the public, specifically the poor and distressed. In 2020 we specifically began addressing the ventilator and oxygen concentrators shortages world-wide caused by COVID-19 by designing new open source respiration support devices.

Program Services

DescriptionGrantsExpenses
In fulfillment of a $20,000 grant, we spent $20,000 designing the open-source VentMon tester/monitor for pandemic ventilators, and gave 20 of these devices away free all around the world. This device allows engineering teams to test emergency ventilators and broken ventilators, potentially saving many lives. We granted $3100 to Helpful Engineering, a 501c3, as a matching grant to support two of their ventilator projects.$3,100$23,100
We purchased other equipment for the design and construction of the Moonrat portable incubator, and other hardware projects. Moonrat is an in-the-field battery powered incubator.$0$13,380
We created Public Invention Oxygen Concentrator, a research project to create an open source oxygen concentrator on a small scale.$0$2,246
