Mission

Our mission is to make mental health and related services available to underserved, marginalized, and/or disenfranchised people through organizational and individual capacity building. We are most notably dedicated to supporting services to people who have experienced discrimination and stigma and to those whose identities are particularly vulnerable to systems of oppression.

VALOR Violence And Loss Organizational Response Valor: great courage in the face of danger (English) Valor: value and/or bravery (Spanish) For any organization where people have experienced violence or sudden or traumatic loss, or for organizations or agencies located in urban neighborhoods where gun and/or other community violence occurs frequently, there is an increased probability that employees will experience violence, the death or injury of a client, or perhaps the death or injury of a colleague. The Wingspan Project's VALOR program is designed to provide support for individuals and organizations experiencing such violence and loss. In 2023, more than 70 helping professionals were provided coaching, averaging 17 sessions each for a total of 1,190 hours of direct engagement and 100+ hours of supervisory, management, and program oversight engagement with non-profit organizations participating in the program..$0$95,444
Young Professionals Network The Young Professionals Network (YPN) supports the growth and development of early career individuals committed to working with underserved and/or underrepresented people and communities. YPN connects these early career individuals with more seasoned professionals who are committed to providing mentorship and consultation on at least a monthly basis. In 2023, there were 18 participants in two cohorts.$0$3,341
The Wingspan Project is partnering with Live Oak, Inc. to offer the Valuing Difference Awards. Our collaboration builds on the aligned beliefs and common history shared by our two organizations. In 2023, there were two award recipients, each receiving $1,000.$2,000$0
Access for All The Access for All (AfA) program provides and subsidizes direct mental health services to individuals, families, and organizations who may not be able to access such services due to financial and/or logistical constraints. Individuals and/or families may submit an application to TWP for services, specifying whether they have already identified a therapist or organization from whom they would like to receive services or if they would like assistance through TWP to identify potential therapists. In 2023, there were 19 volunteer therapists each committing to providing at least 10 sessions of pro-bono psychotherapy. In many cases, the volunteers committed to seeing more than one client or providing more than the minimum of ten sessions.$0$0
Franklin's Fund Franklin's Fund (FF) supports people with mental health needs and/or physical disabilities and their relationships with their animals/pets. Recognizing the value of the animal-human relationship in enhancing and maintaining mental health, FF provides financial and other resources to people who otherwise would not be able to maintain their relationships with their animal family members.$0$0

ReasonableCauseExplanation/ExplanationTxt0The Wingspan Project completed 2023 as the final year in which the organization would exist. In 2024, all services stopped and the only work done has been managing accounts receivable and organizational shut down. All volunteers ceased working with the organization as of 12/31/2023. Since the organization's inception, the 990 was completed by a volunteer, reviewed by the Executive Committee of the Board and submitted to the IRS by the Executive Director. In 2024, the volunteer who had done this in the past was no longer involved with TWP and the Treasurer who assisted in the past was no longer involved. Unfortunately, the 990 submission was not included in the 2024 organizational shutdown task list. This oversight was corrected as soon as it became apparent and the previous volunteer was re-engaged to complete the 990 as quickly as time allowed.
