Founded in 2008, first 5 fundamentals (f5f) is a non-profit organization with a mission to uphold community-based initiatives in achieving their collective goals for children and families. Our team is passionate about making the world a better place for children and families by harnessing the strengths and ideas that live within communities. As our name states, the first 5 years of life are fundamental. Our role is to support cross-sector leaders in early childhood, to help make their collective vision for children and families a reality. F5f currently supports four geographic initiatives pierce county early childhood network, washington communities for children, northwest early learning coalition, and visions for early learning.

Over 140 organizations and individuals have come together to achieve the vision that all children thrive in nurturing relationships and environments. In Pierce County, community partners are conducting a planning process through June 2019 to strengthen and expand the system of support for children from pregnancy through age 5. More than 100 community organizations, government agencies, funders, and parents are working together to create an implementation plan. The plan contains the following components:Centralized Access Point - This typically takes the form of a call center and accompanying virtual service that serves as the "go-to" place for family members, child health care providers, and other professionals seeking information, support, and local referrals for children. Help Me Grow staff will support callers, identify needs, and triage to appropriate services. Care Coordinators work to provide education and support to families around specific developmental or behavioral concerns provide referrals to community supports, and follow up to make sure linkages are successful.The Family & Community Outreach - This team promotes child development information and the use of a Help Me Grow system that is accessible and convenient for families. They provide opportunities for networking among service providers, improving coordination among various agencies for a seamless system of parent support.Data - This team reviews population based data on Pierce County children from prenatal to age five to determine the greatest areas of need and plan for ongoing analysis of a Help Me Grow system. Data collected through the Centralized Access Point during Help Me Grow implementation ensures a systemic review of family needs throughout our community, and guides advocacy efforts for where additional investment in children is needed.Medical Provider Outreach - A Help Me Grow system supports pediatricians and other health providers by providing one referral source to address a child's social, behavioral, developmental, and emotional needs. A Centralized Access Point partners with health providers to ensure effective linkages to the additional services a family may need, and provides follow up to providers on the status of their referrals.Help Me Grow Pierce County envisions a vibrant community where all families have the resources and confidence to support, protect, nurture, and dream for their children. |
