Form 990, Part III

Program service accomplishments (continued) honey program highlights copichajulense: --150 producers --3,800 hives --28 hives per producer in average --team organized with 2 technicians and 5 promoters. --monthly visits from promotors and technicians to support the beekeeping of producers. --100 new longstrom hives. --organic inspection successfully achieved. --2 containers exported to germany. --support to find new markets in usa: 12 barrels exported to usa. --1 trip beekeeping exchange tour: 19 between promoters and board members from copichajulense participated. They visited antigua, alotenango and suchitepequez and were trained in the following topics: best beekeeping practices, queen renewal as key strategy, beekeeping materials, pollen traps, queen rearing techniques. --crs is implementing a project with copichajulense to have apiaries in groups. It seems that almost 90 new young beekeepers will be joining. Microcredit and textiles, chajulense de mujeres, highlights: --supporting advisership to move the admin from assoc. Chajulense de mujeres to coop chajulense de mujeres. The coop will be the micro-credit entity and, ponce moved over to the coop. The advisor will be training the women in financial management to ensure they are capable of managing a growing leding institution for the poor in the ixil region. --support the sales of textiles through hands of guatemala. Agroforestry, coffee with a mission coffee --there are promoters from our coffee program that continue the application of ems during 2020. --we invite the ones that are not working for chajulense, so that they have time, to go with us to comsa in january od 2021 to learn more about mms (mountain micro-organisms harvested by the farmers themselves) and their reproduction and application. --we plan to hire 2 promoters in two communities to be working with coffee practices and mms application in coffee --we work through coffee with a mission to support the social business and implementation of programs. --we traveled to copedota costa rica, to learn from their experience in carbon capture certification and practices. Costa rica is very advanced in the matter. We are seeking some advisership from them. --we are considering to make alliance with other nonprofits expert in agroforestry, eventually, agroforestry network. Cardamom --we have invited experts from new forest to come to the ixil area to give their opinion about the cardamom situation, since many people are planting and most likely the process will drop in the next coming years. New forest has market for organic cardamom. --our student who is graduating next year in agricultural engineering, has started organizing cardamom producers, to see if they can collaborate together to sell their cardamom in better conditions. --look for models of cardamom dryers that don't consumes less wood. Social business, cocomiel --to fulfill its mission to help producers enter the us market so they can earn a fair profit that their products earn there, the coffee trust promoted the development of cocomiel. Cocomiel buys products from guatemalan producers and shares its profits earned in the us equally with producers. --as a double benefit, the other half of cocomiel's profits are contributed to the coffee trust to support community driven projects where the products are grown. --buy approx. 50 barrels of honey from copichajulense and probably honey from other small producers to fill a container. --buy chocolate from a chocolatier, to sell chocolate bars in coffee business. --buy coffee from chajulense to sell to roasters. --buy handicrafts from chajulense de mujeres. Scholarships continue supporting students that are in their last year.
