Prior to voting on senior managements compensation, the board must determine how the proposed compensation package compares to compensation paid by similar organizations for similar services. Comparability data is appropriate if it provides the board with sufficient information to determine if the compensation arrangement, in its entirety, is reasonable when compared to what similar organizations pay. There are a number of ways to obtain comparability data: 1) uan may hire a compensation consultant, 2) the board of directors may purchase compensation comparability data from utah nonprofit association or from a human resource company, 3) the organization may use publicly available information on websites such as www.guidestar.org to determine what comparable afterschool networks are paying their employees.

Utah afterschool network makes its governing documents, conflict of interest policy, and financial statements available to the public upon request.

First, to create a sustainable structure of statewide, regional, and local partnerships. Particularly school-community partnerships, focused on supporting policy development at all levels. Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4A

The utah afterschool network (uan) continued its mission in 202324 to support youth development through high-quality afterschool programs across the state. By partnering with organizations like the charles stewart mott foundation and utah state agencies, uan provided professional learning opportunities, mentorship, and resources to afterschool staff. Over 22,000 students participated in programs with notable impacts, including increased program quality through self-assessment tools and technical assistance. In recognition of exceptional contributions, uan honored educators, volunteers, and programs with annual awards celebrating their dedication to enriching young lives. Quality improvement remained a core focus throughout the year, with uan conducting hundreds of observations across out-of-school time programs and licensed childcare centers. Through targeted coaching, school day alignment efforts, and initiatives like the million girls moonshot stem program and youth entrepreneurship partnerships, uan reached thousands of young participants. The organization also expanded its americorps stem specialist initiative and promoted professional growth through large conferences such as jump start and recharge, an online elearning platform, and financial incentives for afterschool professionals seeking additional training. Advocacy and data system development were vital aspects of uan's work in fy24. The organization spearheaded outreach efforts like "day on the hill- and "lights on afterschool" to raise awareness of afterschool program needs among policymakers. They also expanded the salesforce for ost programs platform to strengthen data collection and storytelling across 40 programs, impacting over 4,000 youth. Through continuous collaboration, strategic initiatives, and a shared commitment to equity and excellence, uan reinforced its leadership role in ensuring that all utah youth have access to safe, engaging, and high-quality afterschool experiences.

IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt0UAN IS A CATALYST FOR BUILDING STRONG, SAFE, AND HEALTHY AFTERSCHOOL/OUT- OF-SCHOOL TIME PROGRAMS TO SUPPORT YOUTH, FAMILIES, AND COMMUNITIES. UAN HAS THREE MAIN OBJECTIVES. FIRST, TO CREATE A SUSTAINABLE STRUCTURE OF STATEWIDE, REGIONAL, AND LOCAL PARTNERSHIPS. PARTICULARLY SCHOOL-COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS, FOCUSED ON SUPPORTING POLICY DEVELOPMENT AT ALL LEVELS. SECOND, TO SUPPORT THE DEVELOPMENT AND GROWTH OF STATEWIDE POLICIES THAT WILL SECURE THE RESOURCES THAT ARE NEEDED TO SUSTAIN NEW AND EXISTING SCHOOL LINKED/SCHOOL-BASED AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAMS. THIRD, TO SUPPORT STATEWIDE SYSTEMS TO ENSURE PROGRAMS ARE OF HIGH QUALITY.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt1THE UTAH AFTERSCHOOL NETWORK (UAN) CONTINUED ITS MISSION IN 202324 TO SUPPORT YOUTH DEVELOPMENT THROUGH HIGH-QUALITY AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAMS ACROSS THE STATE.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt2THE ORGANIZATION HAS MEMBERS WHO ARE COMPRISED OF INTERESTED PARTIES AND PARTNERS OF GOODWILL, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO STATE AGENCIES AND OFFICES, COMMUNITY-BASED ORGANIZATIONS, STATE-WIDE PROGRAMS PROMOTING YOUTH DEVELOPMENT, PARENTS, YOUTH, SCHOOL DISTRICTS AND SCHOOLS, PRIVATE FOR-PROFIT PROVIDERS, AND BUSINESS PARTNERS.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt3DIRECTORS ARE ELECTED BY THE MEMBERS AT THE ANNUAL MEETING BY A SIMPLE MAJORITY OF MEMBERS PHYSICALLY PRESENT AT THE ANNUAL MEETING OR BY A SIMPLE MAJORITY OF MEMBERS WHO CAST A VOTE ELECTRONICALLY.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt4THE FORM 990 IS REVIEWED BY THE ORGANIZATION'S BOARD OF DIRECTORS.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt5EACH MEMBER OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS COMPLETES AND SIGNS A CONFLICT OF INTEREST DISCLOSURE EACH YEAR.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt6PRIOR TO VOTING ON SENIOR MANAGEMENTS COMPENSATION, THE BOARD MUST DETERMINE HOW THE PROPOSED COMPENSATION PACKAGE COMPARES TO COMPENSATION PAID BY SIMILAR ORGANIZATIONS FOR SIMILAR SERVICES.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt7UTAH AFTERSCHOOL NETWORK MAKES ITS GOVERNING DOCUMENTS, CONFLICT OF INTEREST POLICY, AND FINANCIAL STATEMENTS AVAILABLE TO THE PUBLIC UPON REQUEST.
