Activity 2

Crisis givingequally important, universalgiving serves our nonprofit partners. Universalgiving is a resource for vetted, trusted organizations at work on crises around the world. Anyone who wishes to give in response to a crisis situation will be able to find opportunities on our site, and will be assured that they are giving to reputable, effective organizations, having the greatest impact possible from their donation. In 2011 our crisis program relief efforts focused on the japan earthquake and tsunami in march and the turkey earthquake in october. A key expertise is that universalgiving provides the public service of responding to any crisis which the public asks us to, where most organizations only focus on a few.

Activity 3

Major partnershipsuniversalgiving regularly partners with other organizations, providing our services to assist in their missions, which supports our mission of giving and volunteering. Link tv is a community resource on social issues, and is a key partnership. We are collaborating with them for community based journalism, a concept we have pioneered: after someone is inspired by reading an article or watching a video on link tv, a link is provided for them to take action on universalgiving. For example, they read an article on a crisis, and there are links to give and volunteer at the end. Christian science monitor is another community based journalism partnership, providing opportunities to link at the end of their "people making a difference" articles. We also work with other groups, concert tours and events helping them promote and facilitate giving. We worked with yonas media, providing a customized platform for them, and identified nonprofits which could be donated to as part of their musical tour. We also see public speaking and writing about philanthropy and community service as part of our work to help the community. Our ceo, pamela hawley, taught a continuing studies course at stanford university on social responsibility; has spoken at more than 10 speaking engagements per year such as independent sector, usc business school, duke forum for women and ieec, which facilitates groups of international students. She writes regularly on topics of global philanthropy and social responsibility for csrwire, seechange, fast company, businessweek, philanthropy journal and 10 other media organizations.
