Mission and Program Overview

Mission

GV challenges and empowers young people to become socially and environmentally conscious global leaders through a unique 3-part learn-participate-lead approach.

Global Visionaries (GV) is a youth-led organization that empowers, challenges and transforms young people into leaders with a global vision. GV educates youth from diverse socioeconomic, ethnic, racial and geographic backgrounds to become active leaders who promote social and environmental justice through education and service in the United States and abroad. Over the past 16 years, GV has grown to impact 460 youth each program year with an annual budget of just over $1 million. Almost half of the program attendees come from low income families. GV provides scholarships so students are able to participate regardless of their financial situation. GV operates from its headquarters in Seattle. GV offers three core youth leadership programs.

Combining the well-respected travel experience of Rick Steeves with GV's in-depth understanding of Guatemala, this tour is a blend of sight seeing and meaningful learning that is closely aligned with the first-year youth immersion experience. This includes work team experience, Guatemala family home-stay experiences and tours of GV's rural school projects. Global Leaders is a service program and international leadership program based in Colorado. It's aim is to educate and empower students outside of the four walls of the traditional classroom. Global Leaders works directly with Global VIsionaries Guatemala contracted team and utilizes its office space while traveling to Guatemala.”

IRS990/Desc0First Year Leadership Program:The First-Year Leadership Program involves local service projects, leadership training and a 15-day cultural immersion and work experience in Guatemala. For 18 years, GV has invested in developing extraordinary youth leaders by challenging cohorts of ethnically, economically, and socially diverse youth to collaboratively confront complex issues. GV provided $108,500 in scholarships for low income students. GV worked with 301 U.S. and Guatemalan youth. 201 of the U.S. youth gained global leadership skills through five immersion and work trips to Guatemala. Each participant engaged in more than 400 Program Service hours of leadership training and community service, which included over 100 hours of Spanish immersion through experiential education. These youth gained critical thinking skills on overlapping international, economic, social, political, and environmental issues. Youth participated in two weekend retreats in which they learned teamwork, leadership, strategies for cross-cultural understanding, and how to be proactive advocates for social justice and environmental issues. GV Guatemalan and U.S. students engaged collectively in 83,000 hours of service and training: they built two new school classrooms, planted over 4,000 trees and volunteered over 2,800 hours in Hermano Pedro Hospital in Guatemala. Collectively, students contributed to conservation efforts in seven Seattle parks, gained environmental awareness and stewardship skills. Youth participated in hands-on learning during eight visits to Local Roots organic farm, and participated in social justice peer led workshops.

Global Leaders is a service program and international leadership program based in Colorado. It's aim is to educate and empower students outside of the four walls of the traditional classroom. Global Leaders works directly with Global VIsionaries Guatemala contracted team and utilizes its office space while traveling to Guatemala.
