Mission
GV challenges and empowers young people to become socially and environmentally conscious global leaders through a unique 3-part learn-participate-lead approach.

- YOUTH BOARD LEADERSHIP PROGRAM - 40 U.S. Youth Board students and 8 Guatemalan youth leaders gained advanced leadership, facilitation and organization skills. They co-facilitated workshops and seminars throughout the school year on cultural, environmental and social justice issues for first year participants. The Pro Justice Team facilitated seven workshops and initiated weekly meetings with key community, labor, and elected leaders advocating for social justice. Over 35 interns contributed to program services and operations while learning various skills in a non-profit environment. Youth Board students created new programs, including the Environmental Justice Team. We successfully executed our second capacity building and professional training program bringing one Guatemalan youth to the USA on a J-1 VISA through Earthcorps and GV.

| IRS990/Description | 0 | FIRST YEAR LEADERSHIP PROGRAM - GV provided $90,065.41 in scholarships for low income students. GV worked with 338 U.S. and 112 Guatemalan youth. 167 of the U.S. youth gained global leadership skills through five immersion and work trips to Guatemala. Each participant engaged in 400 hours of leadership training and community service which included over 100 hours of Spanish immersion through experiential education. These youth gained critical thinking skills on overlapping international, economic, social, political, and environmental issues. Youth participated in four weekend retreats in which they learned teamwork, leadership, strategies for cross-cultural understanding, and how to be proactive advocates for social justice and environmental issues. 150 students enrolled in our in-school Global Leadership class and taught 90 elementary students about critical environmental issues facing our world. GV Guatemalan and U.S. students engaged in 83,000 hours of service and training: they built two new community center rooms, planted over 4,000 trees and volunteered over 2,800 hours in Hermano Pedro Hospital in Guatemala. Collectively, students contributed to conservation efforts in seven Seattle parks, gained environmental awareness and stewardship skills, participated in hands-on learning during eight visits to Local Roots organic farm, and participated in five social justice peer led workshops. Participants raised $44,000 through philanthropic fundraising which included selling coffee from Guatemalan farmers, while learning the process of coffee making and international trade. |
