Helping hands for single moms program assists low-income single mom families while the mother pursues a post-secondary education, financial independence and a positive family legacy. To address the unique needs of the single mom postsecondary student family, helping hands provides a 3,240 annual scholarship that is leveraged by in-kind supportive services provided by 50 community partners. These services include: auto repair, dental and optical care, professional and legal counseling services, computer tech assistance, carpet cleaning, tickets to professional events, holiday gifts, mentoring, financial management workshops, and monthly single moms network meetings. Since 2001, helping hands has assisted more than 519 single mom post-secondary education students (and their children) as they have pursued a college or technical degree. 295 single moms receiving the full "scholarship plus" services have graduated with an average starting salary of over 61,000.
