“The 990 tax return for Waking the Village is first reviewed by the Executive Director in consultation with the accountant who has completed the 990 the last 4 years. After the Executive Director approves the 990, the 990 and all associated forms being filed are emailed to the Board for review. After review, the Board meets to vote for approval.”
“The Board reviews the Conflict of Interest Policy annually to stay informed on the policies set forth in the document. All new Board members and agency employees complet a Conflict of Interest form to identify any potential conflicts. The form includes a questionnaire to check for common areas of conflict. If a conflict of interest was indicated on the form, it would be presented to the Board at a regular meeting to address concerns. If a Board member were to have conflict of interest when voting on agency direction or expenditures, that Board member would be participate in voting on the item of conflict.”
“The Executive Director's salary is determined by the Board of Directors. The Executive Director is reviewed annually by the Board. The review includes interviews with staff and agency community partners along with qualitative analysis of the Executive Director's performance in a range of areas (leadership, networking, staff management, program design and fundraising..). Prior to any raise, the Executive Director is evaluatedand the Board researches data to ascertain appropriate and reasonable compensation for the Executive Director position and it's accompanying duties. The Board also assesses the agency's fiscal health prior to considering a raise.”

Tubman provides intensive support in navigating health concerns and pregnancy. Tubman provided each residents weekly life skills and parenting workshops and individual coaching. All residents were connected to community resources for health care, career training, college support, counseling, prenatal care, mental health services, childcare and parenting support. ArtBeast acts as a training ground for residents as they develop employment skills. At ArtBeast, Tubman clients learn customer service, timeliness, effective collaboration with co-workers, networking skills and a strong work ethic. Futhermore, as clients develop, they can take on leadership roles as teachers and camp assistants. In addition to developing skills and job history. ArtBeast also provides the flexible schedule that Tubman parents need as both parents and college students. In 2014, 64% of ArtBeast staff was comprised of Tubman clients. 65% transitioned into own apartment upon graduation with income in place to sustain housing. 100% transitioned to safe and stable housing. 80% connected to weekly counseling. 81% secured and maintained job. 100% of those in the program over two months were attending school or working during their stay. 50% attended college. |

Waking the Village makes no payments on these loans which will be forgiven in 2018 after ten years of housing and supporting young, homeless parents and their children in the sites. WTV also provides groceries and nutrition workshops to all families living at Tubman to ensure all have access to healthy food and rhythms. |

These memberships not only provide access to the enviroment, they connect Tubman residents to the larger parenting community and facilitate aftercare contact between the client and Tubman staff. Over 150 Tubman clients have free access to ArtBeast's play spaces, camps, and classes. In 2014, 18 children attended the Tubman child development center. |
