| IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc | 0 | For the last two years, the Fort Sanders Foundation has provided funding for a partnership between Covenant HomeCare and Knoxville Area Rescue Mission (KARM) to reduce frequent hospitalizations among the homeless community. In 2020, $185,894 was distributed to support that project which provides onsite medical care, clinic facilities, medication management and case management at the KARM shelter. Since its inception, the program has served 60 patients, prevented 363 inpatient care days, and saved more than $427,000 in hospitalization costs which would have gone unreimbursed. Additionally, that group of patients has had a 14% reduction in emergency room visits and a 29% reduction in length of stay when hospitalization is required. As a result, the patients at KARM are leading healthier lives.Another $16,271 was distributed to underwrite professional education opportunities for staff, fund membership in the National Hospice and Palliative Care organization, provide patient education materials, fund grief counseling services, and conduct the annual memorial service for families of deceased Hospice patients.Covenant Hospice's annual Katerpillar Kids Camp programming continued to be funded by the Foundation in 2020. Though the traditional in-person weekend camp experience could not take place due to the pandemic, approximately $7,230 was distributed to support free day camp experiences and virtual grief support for children who have experienced the death of a loved one. |

Patients are vetted both clinically and financially by Center staff before being selected for scholarship-funded care. Distributions of $126,556 in 2020 supported 36 requests for patients who were provided with inpatient and outpatient care, as well as durable medical equipment needs. The Foundation receives grant funds annually from the Will Rogers Institute to support pulmonary rehabilitation across Covenant Health. A significant portion of that funding is distributed for scholarships to fund outpatient pulmonary rehab for patients without insurance coverage or the ability to pay. In 2020, distributions of $34,458 supported 237 patients at Roane, Parkwest, Methodist, LeConte, Loudoun, and Fort Sanders Regional outpatient pulmonary rehabilitation clinics.Outpatient cardiac rehabilitation patients with no insurance coverage or ability to pay are provided care through distributions from the Foundation's Lewis S. Howard Memorial Fund. Eighteen patient requests for care at the Parkwest and Fort Sanders Regional outpatient cardiac rehabilitation clinics received $7,176 in assistance in 2020. |

| IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActyOtherGrp/Desc | 0 | The Foundation supports a variety of other patient care programs throughout Covenant Health. The most significant distributions in 2020, which were directed to Peninsula, Fellowship Center, Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center, and Parkwest Medical Center, are detailed below:In 2020, funds raised through the annual Artsclamation! fine art sale and other donations supported behavioral health care at Peninsula Hospital, a division of Parkwest Medical Center. Just over $100,000 provided discharge medications to patients who need a supply of prescriptions when they leave the hospital to maintain their health until they are set up on TennCare or other payer sources for ongoing maintenance medications. An additional $8,000 was distributed to update landscaping and create a memorial garden for staff and visitor respite at the Peninsula Hospital location. The Fellowship Center, an outpatient lodging facility supported entirely by contributions, offers free lodging for families coping with serious illnesses and includes fourteen furnished apartments, a community family room, stocked pantry, and laundry facilities. Thompson Cancer Survival Center patients and their families who live more than 30 miles from Knoxville have priority use of Fellowship Center apartments. As space permits, the Center also welcomes outpatients from Patricia Neal Rehabilitation Center, critical care patient families, and referrals from area health care facilities. In 2020, $58,631 in distributions supported the operational and capital costs of the Center. Additionally, $1,395 in gifts-in-kind were received and distributed to the Center, primarily pantry and household items for use by guests. Though occupancy was down from prior years due to the pandemic, the Center still hosted 328 guests from thirteen states in 2020 providing a total of 3,119 nights of free lodging. Fort Sanders Foundation's distributions to Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center in 2020 primarily supported the Patricia Neal Rehabilitation Center. Approximately $53,000 was directed to the Center's programs and services, including staff education, upgraded rehabilitation therapy equipment, the annual operating and equipment expenses of the Innovative Recreation Cooperative which provides adaptive sports and recreation opportunities throughout the community, and several patient support groups. An additional approximately $4,000 in in-kind donations of meals and snacks were distributed to Fort Sanders Regional employees as a thank you from the community for their work during the pandemic.Distributions to Parkwest Medical Center in 2020 totaled $49,600. Over $35,000 supported COVID-19 related PPE and infection control needs through a grant from Truist Foundation. Another $8,800 was distributed to support patient education efforts in orthopedic surgery and to provide translation services to non-English speaking patients and families throughout the hospital. An additional approximately $5,000 in in-kind donations of meals and snacks were distributed to Parkwest employees as a thank you from the community for their work during the pandemic. |
