Mission and Program Overview

Mission

People who have just been released from prison are typically stigmatized, overlooked, and pigeonholed by society. When they walk into project return, they discover that here they are valued, heard, and encouraged. While reduction of incarceration and other criminal justice reform continues to elude the u.s., project return serves as part of the solution. Project return is solely dedicated to the successful new beginnings of people returning to our community after incarceration. Now in its 44th year of service to tennessee, project return provides reentry assistance, including workforce development, to hundreds of men and women each year. We place employment at the core of our work, because it is the best predictor of a successful future for the people we serve, and all of our program services and business development are woven together to ensure maximal employment opportunity. The mission of project return is to provide services and connect people with resources needed to return succes

Project return's mission is to provide services and connect people with resources needed to return successfully to work and community after incarceration.

Governance Explanations

Form 990, Page 6, Part VI, Line 11B

A draft copy of the form 990 is emailed to the executive committee of the board for comments and approval prior to filing with the irs.

Form 990, Page 6, Part VI, Line 12C

When members annually sign our board member conflict of interest acknowledgement and disclosure form, they express their agreement that, in the course of meetings or activities, they are obligated to disclose any conflict of interest, or appearance of a conflict, when such arises, and that for transactions in which they have a conflict, they will abstain from discussion and voting.

Form 990, Page 6, Part VI, Line 15A

A process was created and approved for conducting a compensation review for the executive director; the policy requires comparability data and establishes the timing, board approval and required documentation, as well as the independence of the committee conducting the review and communication of the decision process.

Financial Statement Notes

Schedule D, Page 3, Part X

The agency is exempt from federal and state income taxes under section 501 (c)(3) of the internal revenue code and the tax laws of the state of tennessee. Accounting principles generally accepted in the united states of america require the agency to evaluate tax positions taken by the agency and recognize a tax liability (or asset) if the agency has taken an uncertain position that more likely than not would not be sustained upon examination by the irs. The management has analyzed the tax positions taken by the agency and has concluded that as of june 30, 2015 no uncertain positions are taken or are expected to be taken that would require recognition of a liability (or asset) or disclosure in the financial statements. The agency is subject to routine audits by taxing jurisdictions; however, there are currently no audits for any tax periods in progress. The agency is no longer subject to u. S. Federal income tax examinations by tax authorities for years ended prior to june 30, 2012.

IRS990ScheduleD/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt0THE AGENCY IS EXEMPT FROM FEDERAL AND STATE INCOME TAXES UNDER SECTION 501 (C)(3) OF THE INTERNAL REVENUE CODE AND THE TAX LAWS OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE.
