Form 990, Part III, line 2

Infant, Waddler, & Toddler Programs Students immersed in our Infant Program enjoy close and loving interactions with their two primary caregivers in this program, which maintains a 6:2 ratio. At this level, the teachers provide all of the care, stimulation and affection. Their work is supplemented, though, by our music teacher, who joins them twice a week for a joyful movement and music class, which stimulates cognition, body awareness, social skills, and coordination. Individual student development is tracked using Florida's Early Learning and Developmental Standards. These are shared with families twice a year during Parent-Teacher Conferences, though families may request a conference at any time. This program is fully accredited by the Pinellas County Licensing Bureau. At the Waddler level, students enjoy two music classes per week as well as two physical education classes per week, which focus on balance, coordination, and the development of core strength. The classroom teachers provide the bulk of the instruction, using Florida's Early Learning and Developmental standards to guide unit and lesson planning. Individual student development is tracked using those same standards. These are shared with families twice a year during Parent-Teacher Conferences, though families may request a conference at any time. This program is fully accredited by the Pinellas County Licensing Bureau. The Waddler Program maintains a student-to-teacher ratio of 8:2. At the Toddler level, students enjoy two music classes per week as well as two physical education classes per week, which focus on balance, coordination, the development of core strength, as well as safe play practices. This program is designed to maintain a student-to-teacher ratio of 10:2.

FORM 990, PART XII, LINE 2C:

The finance committee is responsible for oversight of the financial statement audit. The audit process has not changed from the prior year.

Financial Statement Notes

Part V, Line 4:

The School's endowment consists of several individual funds established for a variety of purposes. Its endowment includes both donor-restricted funds and funds designated by the board of trustees to function as endowments. The School manages a board-designated endowment, whose use is limited by the Board of Trustees as to principal and income. In October, 2005 the Board of Trustees passed a resolution specifying that any unrestricted legacy campaign donations be allocated as follows: 55% to the Board-designated General Endowment and the remaining 45% to the Faculty Endowment. Of the portion allocated to the board-designated endowment, 90% will be allocated to the building fund (a sub-account of the board-designated endowment for re-payment of debt service) with the residual 10% allocated to the general fund of the board-designated endowment for investment. An 85% vote of the entire membership of the Board of Trustees shall be required to authorize a distribution or loan from the principal of the Endowment fund. The School established the Faculty Endowment for the purpose of receiving and investing contributions to enhance the School's ability to provide lecturers or faculty of the highest quality and reputation and to provide funds for scholar stipends in various scholastic disciplines. Distributions from the funds are limited to certain defined maximums. The Faculty Endowment is to continue as long as its purpose can be serviced by its continuation and may otherwise be terminated or used for other purposes only upon a catastrophic occurrence that jeopardizes the existence of the School, as reasonably determined by an 85% majority vote of the Trustees.

Part X, Line 2:

The School is exempt from federal income taxes under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and has been determined not to be a private foundation. The School has adopted the provisions of ASC Topic 740 relating to "Accounting for Uncertainty in Income Taxes." The School does not believe it has any material income tax exposure relating to uncertain tax positions. The School's income tax filings for periods after the fiscal year ended June 30, 2013 remain subject to examination.

IRS990/Desc0AS AN INDEPENDENT SCHOOL IN THE EPISCOPAL TRADITION, SAINT PAUL'S SCHOOL IS PROUD TO PROVIDE A DYNAMIC COMMUNITY OF LEARNING FOR CHILDREN IN PRE-KINDERGARTEN 3 THROUGH EIGHTH GRADE. WITH AN EMPHASIS ON VALUES AND CHARACTER, SAINT PAUL'S CURRICULUM FOCUSES ON ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE. THE SCHOOL IS COMPRISED OF THREE DIVISIONS: EARLY CHILDHOOD, LOWER SCHOOL, AND MIDDLE SCHOOL. WHILE EACH DIVISION HAS ITS OWN IDENTITY, ALL BENEFIT FROM BEING PART OF A LARGER SCHOOL COMMUNITY. TOGETHER, THEY REPRESENT THE BEGINNING OF A LIFELONG JOURNEY OF LEARNING FOR SAINT PAUL'S STUDENTS.SEE CONTINUATION ON SCHEDULE OOur Early Learning Center, affectionately referred to as Doyle Towne, is geared to prepare students for the rigors of our Lower School Program, but in a way that is developmentally appropriate for children ranging in age from two months to five years of age. Mornings are peppered with song, books, chants and rhymes, and small group instruction, where early literacy, numeracy, science and social studies skills are taught in a way that provides opportunities to enhance fine and gross motor coordination. Students are also immersed in imaginative play-based projects, where they learn important life and social skills while exploring the world around them. These projects allow students to ask questions, conduct their own research, and develop investigations that engage their minds and emotions in a way that becomes an unscripted adventure for students and teachers alike. Teachers facilitate and guide student inquiry, but allow students to take ownership for the project so that their engagement and fulfillment are maximized. The Lower School Program of Study is designed to promote each student's sense of ownership and responsibility for their own learning. Whether it be Reader's or Writer's Workshop, Math, Social Studies, Science or one of our many enrichment courses, students are guided in an ongoing cycle of self-evaluation that includes setting goals, developing a plan for meeting those goals, and reflecting on what was accomplished so that new goals can be set. Students are encouraged to demonstrate effort, perseverance, strategic thinking, collaboration, problem-solving, and creativity in their everyday endeavors. This is especially true during Project Time, where students work in teams to design and implement large-scale, interdisciplinary projects. Students present their learning outcomes via Student-led Conferences, in which they design a presentation that encapsulates the ways they've learned, grown, and changed over time. At the heart of our elementary program is our Character and Community Initiative. Each class dedicates time every day to cultivating a caring, compassionate culture, where both students and adults feel respected, appreciated, and responsible for making this school a place where everyone can thrive. Saint Paul's middle school educators have a powerful opportunity to harness the energy and learning potential of this unique age group. With a unique learning environment, our curriculum is tailored for a focus on critical thinking, making connections, creativity and forming collaborative partnerships. The middle school, grades sixth through eighth, pushes students to develop a worldview and prepare students for the finest high school experiences in the Bay Area as confident, eager learners. Middle school students take six required core courses. Much of this coursework is overlapping and interdisciplinary. Our advisory program provides a robust social-emotional curriculum that emphasizes concepts of communication skills, empathy, personal accountability, and community; our students are offered a safe environment with a trusted teacher-advisor to establish strong personal connections. This feeling of connectedness and belonging motivates students to embark on the journey of taking risks and moving beyond their comfort zone. After all, middle school is a chance to try new things and get a taste of new experiences. As such,
