Mission

Helping people with mental health challenges achieve their highest level of fulfillment and functioning. - our story - cooperriis, inc. Is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization located in western north carolina that serves residents from around the us and other countries. Cooperriis is a therapeutic healing community and is designed to offer a continuum of residential treatment services to people with mental health challenges. Cooperriis is designed to incorporate elements of the recovery and therapeutic healing community models. A therapeutic healing community is a place that works in partnership with residents in which the recovery journey is an individualized experience and in which residents are empowered and supported in their efforts to heal and grow from their mental health challenges. The goal of the program is for residents to ultimately integrate into their home communities and work, go to school, or volunteer. Residents must be at least eighteen years old at admission. Cooperriis is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization. From its opening in june 2003, cooperriis has served over 900 individuals, enabling most of them to move along the path of recovery in mental illness toward fulfilled and functional lives. Cooperriis operates a modern 10 million complex on a 94 acre farm in mill spring, north carolina 45 miles southeast of asheville and a modern 4 million complex on three wooded acres near the university of north carolina asheville. Since opening, rate reductions totaling 19,728,195 have been provided. Approximately 41% of cooperris's residents are granted rate reductions in tuition.

Schedule D, Page 2, Part V, Line 4

The endowments in part v represent a beneficial interest in funds held by the community foundation of western north carolina, an unrelated nonprofit organization. Cooperriis endowment fund: the first 5 million is a permanent endowment; principal may not be distributed. Income is available for scholarship support. Principal and income in excess of 5 million will be available for use as designated by the board of cooperriis and the board of the foundation. Such uses may include but not be limited to capital or operating expense requirements of cooperriis or for use by other entities to address the needs of the mentally ill. Renaissance scholarship fund: the purpose of the fund is to support cooperriis. All amounts distributed from the fund shall be used solely for charitable purposes and as allowed by irc section 501(c)(3).

The organization is exempt from income taxes under section 501(c)(3) except on net income derived from unrelated business activities. The organization believes that it has appropriate support for any tax positions taken, and as such, does not have any uncertain tax positions material to the financial statements.
