Mission

The mission of the hospice foundation is to support hospice & palliative carecenter through sound investment, strong fundraising efforts, and comprehensive stewardship of donors.

The foundation operates in support of hospice & palliative carecenter ("the carecenter") by serving as a supporting organization to solicit funds and invest funds and provide funding for and on behalf of the carecenter.

“The foundation's board of directors has power and authority to elect half of the directors. The remaining directors are appointed by the board of directors of the carecenter. Each director is entitled to one vote. The chief executive officer of hospice & palliative carecenter and the president of the hospice foundation serve as ex-officio members without voting rights.”

“Form 990 review process: when the form is received from the preparing accounting firm, the entire form is reviewed by the executive director of the foundation and by the president/ceo of hospice & palliative carecenter. This review consists of checks for reasonableness and differences in information reported to preparing accounting firm and final document. A final copy is forwarded to the hospice foundation board of directors after filing.”

“Endowment funds are held for investment by the hospice foundation, a supporting organization. Earnings from the investments are allocated to hospice & palliative carecenter as needed to support programs and services of the organization.”

“Management has evaluated the hospice's tax position and concluded that hospice has taken no uncertain tax positions that require adjustment to the financial statements. With few exceptions, hospice is no longer subject to income tax examinations by the u.s. Federal, state, or local tax authorities for years before 2011. Hospice files as a tax-exempt organization. Because management has not identified unrelated business income in past years, hospice has not filed form 990-t, exempt organization business income tax returns. As a result, all years are potentially open to review by taxing authorities. Management is not aware of any significant activities that are subject to tax on unrelated business income or excise of other taxes for hospice.”
