Mission and Program Overview
Mission
The fair trade federation is the trade association that strengthens and promotes north american organizations fully committed to fair trade. The federation is part of the global fair trade movement, building equitable and sustainable trading partnerships and creative opportunities to alleviate poverty. The federation values guide our work to create a just and sustainable economic system.
Major Activities
- Activity 2
- In 2012, the fair trade federation convened a commodities committee made up of ftf members and directors, with significant representation by commodities wholesalers. The committee reviewed commodities certification standards within the context of ftf's nine principles of fair trade and code of practice. The committee created clear guidelines for multi- ingredient commodities products, created consistency and clarity between business types, and strengthened the guidelines for all commodity wholesalers. By strengthening the code of practice, ftf continues to set a high bar for fully committed fair trade businesses.
- Activity 3
- In 2012, the fair trade federation began a complete overhaul of the website and web based member search function. The goal of the overhaul was to connect users with clear, direct links to members' websites, as well as to information tailored to various audiences (researchers/students, consumers, ft business owners, and members.) in addition, the fair trade federation published three online fair trade product guides, collaborated on the 2013 fair trade calendar, and published the 2nd ever fair trade stores and cafe's brochure
